Just a nice song... no a great song. Roky Erickson has been around for a long wall (was actually a parnter of Tommy Hall years ago) . Has written quite a few song -- and was diagnosed at the top of his popularity with paranoid schizophrenia. He has been able to function and create beautiful music and lyrics for himself and others. I love it when someone with his talent is able to share with the world their thoughts and music. Words and music man, words and music. : )

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds

Description
After goth pioneers the Birthday Party called it quits in 1983, singer/songwriter Nick Cave assembled the Bad Seeds, a post-punk supergroup featuring former Birthday Party guitarist Mick Harvey on drums, ex-Magazine bassist Barry Adamson, and Einstürzende Neubauten guitarist Blixa Bargeld. With the Bad Seeds, Cave continued to explore his obsessions with religion, death, love, America, and violence with a bizarre, sometimes self-consciously eclectic hybrid of blues, gospel, rock, and arty post-punk, although in a more subdued fashion than his work with the Birthday Party. Cave also allowed his literary aspirations to come to the forefront; the lyrics are narrative prose, heavy on literary allusions and myth-making, and take some inspiration from Leonard Cohen. Cave's gloomy lyrics, dark musical arrangements, and deep baritone voice recall the albums of Scott Walker, who also obsessed over death and love with a frightening passion.

I'm probably the only person on earth who hates the movie the "Wizard of Oz" and who hates "Somewhere over the Rainbow." Guess it's because the movie scared the bejeezus out of me when I was a kid. BUT - and it's a big BUT --- I do like the version by IZ ... whole different ballgame. Great song -- and I like it ... I really do.

I love Rhichard Thompson. Two favorite songs -- one is on this album called Persuasion (the other on another album is "I misunderstood") -- I have completely replayed the song 12 or more times in a row. Love his voice. The music and the lyrics. Great singer.
Thompson is a veteran British folk-rock troubadour who is an instrumental virtuoso, a soulful singer, and a songwriter whose depth and emotional complexity rival Dylan's.

Eagles - Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975: Eagles: Music

Description
I still think of the ride to Ocean City, MD when I was a kid when I hear "Witchy Woman." My mother who was an Eagles fan in her youth never let go of them and we listened to her tapes all the way down the road. This is the record you want if you want their hits... in actuality -- they are all good albums.
The pre-Hotel California years were arguably the best for The Eagles (though there were, thanks to Joe Walsh, some stellar future moments). Their mix of country, folk, and rock had a harder, grittier edge, and helped define what would become known as the Southern California sound. There was just enough of a country feel in the beautiful harmonies of "Best of My Love," to blur the edges between the genres. "Take It Easy" and "Lyin' Eyes" could easily have come out of the new Nashville school, as well. The twang that characterizes the guitar intro to "Already Gone" and the leads in "Witchy Woman" and "One of These Nights," also pays tribute to country's guitar greats. Greatest Hits 1971-1975 houses a scant ten singles, but not only does it illustrate the magic of the collaboration between Glen Frey and Don Henley, it shows the breadth of The Eagles impact on the many who would follow their lead. --Steve Gdula (via Cait)

The Wall by Pink Floyd

Description
The Wall is less a collection of songs than a single work, which is sometimes frustrating; the plot lacks enough coherence to hold the snippets of music together. However, there are occasional flashes of brilliance on what ranks as Pink Floyd's most ambitious project. Most of these come from the fully developed songs, which have become classics in their own right. "Hey You," "Mother," and especially "Comfortably Numb" are subtle, incredible pieces of music. Though complex, they move at a relaxed pace, allowing the listener to absorb them slowly; this kind of pacing was something Pink Floyd excelled at. Also worth noting is the "Another Brick in the Wall/The Happiest Days of Our Lives" medley, which has become a staple of rock radio. (via Cait)

Description
Dark Side of the Moon, originally released in 1973, is one of those albums that is discovered anew by each generation of rock listeners. This complex, often psychedelic music works very well because Pink Floyd doesn't rush anything; the songs are mainly slow to mid-tempo, with attention paid throughout to musical texture and mood. The sound effects on songs like "On the Run," "Time" and especially "Money" (with sampled sounds of clinking coins and cash registers turned into rhythmic accompaniment) are impressive, especially when we remember that 1973 was before the advent of digital recording techniques. This is probably Pink Floyd's best-known work, and it's an excellent place to start if you're new to the band. (via Ernie)

I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got by Sinead O'Connor

Description
Favorite song on the album ... of course, it's "Nothing Compares 2 U" and no one sings it like Sinead. Beautiful vocals that stand the test of time.
Before Sinead O'Connor became conservative America's most reviled musician when she ripped up a picture of the Pope on TV and refused to perform live at a New Jersey venue following "The Star Spangled Banner," she vocally supported the IRA at home in Ireland and generally roused the rabble. Indeed, she's one female pop star who's truly earned her army boots. Though her once meteoric musical career has suffered due to her outspokenness, the powerful voice and presence found on her second album is beyond reproach. Best known as the source of O'Connor's breakthrough cover of Prince's "Nothing Compares 2 U," this is a moving, intensely passionate work full of dark beauty and longing, constructed with a fierce independence and a taste for the unique. This undeniably pop album (albeit with modern-rock and folk elements) has more than held up through the years. (via Ernie)

Description
You've got the cruisiers with the "nasty" stuff! : ) If you remember greasers in school or John Travolta in Grease -- this movie soundtrack will make you smile, hum and dance. One of my absolute favorite albums. This modest early '80s hit film about a fictional '60s rock icon who mysteriously disappears (or does he?) took its lead from similar legends surrounding the death of Jim Morrison. Its succesful soundtrack arose from an even more surreal brew of art and commerce. Then-journeyman musician John Cafferty and his Beaver Brown Band essentially became the, er, "real" Eddie and the Cruisers, with actor Michael Pare lip-synching the vocals, and other actors miming their parts. Cafferty and crew supply what was then a fair approximation of the Springsteen Sensibility--wall-of-sound bar rock with overreaching lyrics and grab-your-throat vocals. (via Ernie)
