About Me

Dubbed "the poster girl for the blogger generation" by the New York Post, I was born in New York City. After growing up in San Diego and Dallas, I moved to Atlanta, where my family currently resides. Following a year at boarding school in Santa Barbara, I enrolled at Barnard College. While at Barnard, I interned for CNN, InStyle, Harper's Bazaar and FHM, wrote for the Columbia Spectator — where I interviewed celebrities including Madonna — and studied abroad in Paris. I graduated from Barnard College in 2002 with a double major in English and European Studies. I accepted a Beauty Assistant job with Lucky Magazine and became Associate Beauty Editor of Ladies' Home Journal at the age of 23. In May 2005, I began a blog under the pseudonym "Jolie in NYC" where I dispersed beauty advice and celebrity gossip. My identity was revealed in July of 2005, and after an offer at Seventeen magazine as Beauty Editor was simultaneously rescinded, my story was covered in international broadcast and print news outlets. Since being "outed" and thrust into the spotlight as a beauty expert, I have blogged for Jane and MTV, freelance and continue my blog—which has received over 3,000,000 hits — as a platform for honest, straightforward beauty advice.

Beauty Confidential is my first book; my second, a novel titled The Beauty Expert, will be published in 2008 by Harper-Collins. My passion for travel and languages have led to a career in international beauty and media consulting as CEO of Jolie NYC Enterprises. I am working on my next book and divide my time between Los Angeles, New York City and London.
