Fort Knox Five is my latest music obsession. Discovered them at San Francisco's LoveFest event last month. Groovy beats and flowing vocals. Yum!

Description

In honor of "Sweetest" day, and the fact that I am my own sweetest thing right now, I am recommending this lovely piece of fab that I stumbled upon.

Headed to a sample sale tomorrow with ThisNext Maven, Laura Sweet, and Blue Wild Indigo is supposed to be there. I'm going to spend a lot I can already tell. Cheers to Sweetest Day being my excuse!

Wet-n-wild Black Eyeliner

Description

I think every jr. high girl I went to school with had black wet-n-wild and some of that frosty gloss to match. It was the era of heavier-lined eyes, teased bangs, biker shorts, neon..wow that looks bad when written down.

Our newsletter topic about "Back to School, Back to Work," coupled with a surprise old skool radio play of Depeche Mode, had me thinking back to what I used to dig back in the day. First to mind was my favorite all white fans. The ones with the blue line just didn't fit the same, the sole was thinner. And I loved the clearn lines. They went with me everywhere. And growing up in San Diego they were accompanied with tan legs and shorts and skirts for most of the year. Ah the good old days.

Orbit Mojito Gum

3 people recommended this item

Description

I remember reading about this specific flavor on ThisNext when it was first recommended but had never encountered it in person.

The ThisNext team had a fab demo table at LA-based Twiistup and I wanted to have snacks to hand out that had been prequalified by all you savvy ThisNexters. I headed off to a convenience store (after stocking up on mounds of Japanese candy) and lo-and-behold, there it was. Mint Mojito flavored Orbit! I snatched up several packs to add to the goodie bowl.

At the event I told a visitor about it. He had heard of it too but never tried it. I immediately gave him a piece and he promptly unwrapped it and began to chew. He looked at me and started nodding hishead, "Mmm. you know it's really good and it does remind me of a mojito!" (In a kid-friendly way of course.) I snagged a pack to take home and now I sit typing this post chomping happily away.

If you encounter this gum, buy it. It's a nice upgrade from all those mint and bubblegum options out there. Only drawback is that the flavor doesn't last as long as the mint, but hey, it's Mojito, I'm not going to complain.

(It's also great for chewing at 3:00p when those snacky feelings hit and you're trying to avoid the meeting leftovers in the kitchen.)

Turbo Bug Vacuum

First to recommend

2 people recommended this item

Description

"What is THAT?" I said, while pointing frantically at the floor where something small was crawling its way across, making a beeline for the sofa where it would likely disappear until I went to sleep when I would wake with it on me.

As I began to reach for a large book to squash it my dear friend Lucy yelled, "Wait! Wait!" and then disappeared down the hall. When she came back she had one of these bug vacuumn's in her hand but from Sharper Image in a white/light blue combo. She vacuumed that little sucker up, trapped him in the observatory portion and then relocated it outside to live another day.

The bug vacuumn is designed as a toy for kids to better examine insects they collect. It also, apparently, works as a tool for adults that don't like bugs, don't want to touch them and don't want to hurt them.

The Reminder by Feist

Why, oh why, is this album so flipping good? Beautiful, haunting, happy, relaxing... overall good listening music for just about any mood. A new fave I can already tell.

This is going with me to Playa del Carmen so I can slip into a Feist-y world while sipping my patron and gazing out at fine looking men and perfect clear blue water.

Ah, life is good.

Word of Mouth Marketing: How Smart Companies Get People Talking

First to recommend

Description

Andy Sernovitz knows his stuff and thanks to this book now I know it too.

Althought a lot of it is not "new" it is a great reminder and incredibly motivating. This past week I hit chapter 4 in the WOM book and was practically pumping my fist in the air while yelling, "Yes, exactly! This is what we need to be doing!"

ThisNext is full of interesting users with passionate voices and unique viewpoints. How do we, as a company, reach them to let them know how valued they are and give them opportunities to amplify their voice? Andy's book has given me a ton of ideas.

Be on the lookout ThisNext'ers...we got a lot in store for you.

About Nicole:

I'm a total sucker for new products. I am a jewelry whore and am totally in to chunky necklaces and rings lately. I adore cute heels but know that whole Sex-in-the-City-walk-all-day-and-not-have-your-feet-sore-thing is total b.s. I reserve my hottest heels for when I know I am going to be sitting.

I like to travel and love to read. I enjoy learning what makes other people tick and what they can't do without. I'm a marketing geek and a chocoholic. I am easily amused and laugh a lot (to which my office mates can attest.) I enjoy good company and easy-going people. I love my job and my life.

Happy discovering!
