Morceaux de Choix ~ Brigitte Fontaine

Description
"Morceaux de Choix" is a collection of eclectic songs which drifts in and out of various styles. I tend to think of Brigitte Fontaine as a Jazz artist, but I'll accept that Fontaine's music is written as if it where a lyrical landscape in which Fontaine explores her quixotic expression. As for my taste this method of artistry works very well, as I always have an ear out for music which expands the art-form. It's the quality of production, musicianship, and most of all the delightfully sexy / whimsical voice of Brigitte Fontaine that makes "Morceaux de Choix" and other recordings by Brigitte Fontaine worth recommending.
From Wikipedia:
During the course of her career she (Brigitte Fontaine) employed numerous unusual musical styles, melting rock and roll, folk, jazz, spoken word poetry and world rhythms. She collaborated with such celebrated musicians as Stereolab, Michel Colombier, Jean-Claude Vannier, Areski Belkacem, Gotan Project, Sonic Youth, Antoine Duhamel, Archie Shepp and The Art Ensemble of Chicago. Merry Christmas, Baby ~ Lou Rawls

Description
I reunited with the music of Lou Rawls in a "Banana Republic" dressing room in New York City, this was back during the time "Banana Republic" produced mixed-tape "like" CD's, the one I overheard contained the best versions a the Christmas classic "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" I'd ever heard, it was fun, moving, spiritual, and deadly funky. Later I tracked down this Lou Rawls Christmas collection at a near by Virgin Megastore, and do you know that when I play that album, something magical happens, people, start to smile, they slow down from thier busy life and take in the air, a some people even start dancing! It's that good! Yes, Lou Rawls saved my Christmas, without this collection of seriously swinging tunes I would have given Christmas up years ago.
Have yourself a merry little Christmas! ^_^

Description
Giants of jazz once again embrace the music of Joni Mitchell, this time under the cool couture styling of Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter. Maybe the best Joni cover album so far, "River: The Joni Letters" is Grammy material featuring talent that is so high end that the atmosphere created on "River" could transform a cardboard box into a full-on luxury penthouse. Norah Jones, Tina Turner, Corinne Bailey Rae, Luciana Souza, Sonya Kitchel, Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell herself add vocal dimension to the sensual selections hand picked from joni's warm flowing body of work, the collaboration is so successful that I'm still in awe even after repeated listening, but as with all good things I do want more and hope that other giants will take on Joni and her songbook with the same verve, vision and grace.
Noteworthy tracks:
Court and Spark featuring Norah Jones
Edith and the Kingpin featuring Tina Turner
Both Sides Now
River featuring Corinne Bailey Rae
Sweet Bird
Tea Leaf Prophecy featuring Joni Mitchell
Solitude
Amelia featuring Luciana Souza
Nefertiti
The Jungle Line featuring Leonard Cohen

Description
a legendary masterpiece--I've only recently discovered--not that I haven't heard the gravitational sounds from this pivotal Isaac Hayes album or radio before. Now I feel it's important to get the word out, the Isaac Hayes version of Burt Bacharach's "Walk On By" and Jimmy Webb's "By the Time I Get to Phoenix," are slow burn love songs lasting 12 and 18.5 minutes apiece. The 10-minute "Hyperbolicsyllabicsesquedalymistic," caught me off guard, but now I'm hooked.

Description
The songs "Jericho" and "The Silky Veils Of Ardor" have become my favorite tracks from "Don Juan's Reckless Daughter". I was originally seduced by the sweeping sonic storytelling of "Paprika Plains", but now the orchestrated structure of it reminds me too much of those "concept albums" of the 70's.

A brilliant collection of early recordings by one of this centurys most inspiring and original artists. Through out I enjoyed how Yoko Ono crafts new textures and melodies from Blues, Jazz, Rock, Dance, Reggae, and so on. Onobox is a important music exploration, the music contained within historically is groundbreaking as it successfully bridges traditional asian voice and western contemporary music.

Description
Holly Keyser, which offers a hollow mahogany body, a 24 3/4" scale rosewood-on-mahogany neck, 24 medium frets, two ferrite/alnico humbuckers, chrome tuners, and a Tune-o-matic-style bridge, plays as good as it looks. If you want one you'll need to do some looking around, you see, big guitar brands push smaller luthiers like Malden out of the show-room--but guess what it means you get a guitar that's rare, so you won't look and sound like all the rest.
