Description

Dillion crystal guitars are made once or twice a year in very limited quantities, usually 4 to 8 of a model. Each guitar is numbered and dated and comes with a signed corresponding certificate of authenticity. They all have solid acrylic bodies with matching acrylic headstocks. They also have maple necks with rosewood fingerboards and hand polished and crowned frets. They also feature professional diecast gears and Dillion custom wound pickups.

Rolling Stones: Biggest Bang - DVD

Description

An excellent documentary from the Rolling Stones Bigger Bang tour. What's noteworthy about this four DVD disk set is the access given to view the Stones and crew behind the scenes, on stage and in deep thought. I loved almost every performance, be it from Japan, China, Texas, or Rio de Janeiro. The Argentina show turns out to be a a very important part of this doc, as it shows a massive young audience as they loose it to the sound Mick, Keith, Charlie, and Ron. The guest interviews are a nifty extra, but unfortunately these stars are not the Stones. As far as the Stones as aging rockers, I felt very small and very humbled, by the power, energy, sex-appeal, humor, charm, and originality the Stones bring on stage. I didn't get a chance to see them when they played, but this DVD set took me closer to these giants than I could have ever imagined.

Bombshell Baby Of Bombay -- Bouncing Nightclub Grooves From Bollywood Films 1959 to 1972

Description

Incredible grooves from the Indian film scene -- mod little numbers that are a fair bit different than most Bollywood work that usually shows up on CD! As the title implies, the work here is more in a nightclub mode than a funky one -- and the tunes are a great blend of romping rhythms, electric guitar, and quirky vocals -- all wrapped together in an extremely playful way! The tunes here almost remind us a bit of some of the Japanese soundtrack work we've been stocking from the 60s -- especially in the stark sounds and dramatic use of instrumentation -- and the package here provides some great references for this under-discovered music, by offering up beautiful images from the films, and a wealth of helpful notes! The whole thing's tremendous -- easily one of the best Bollywood sets I've seen -- and titles include "Kati Patang" by RD Burman, "Gumnaam" by Shankar Jakishan, "Kismat" by OP Nayyar, "Loafer" by Laxmikant Pyarelal, "Bluff Master" by Kalyanji Anandji, "Ek Phool Char Kante" by Shankar Jaikishan, and "Hamara Adhikar" by Chitragupta. (Expensive, but an amazing package as well -- very heavy vinyl and cover, with full images throughout, even on the inner sleeves!)

Holly Keyser - Malden Guitars

Description

Holly Keyser, which offers a hollow mahogany body, a 24 3/4" scale rosewood-on-mahogany neck, 24 medium frets, two ferrite/alnico humbuckers, chrome tuners, and a Tune-o-matic-style bridge, plays as good as it looks. If you want one you'll need to do some looking around, you see, big guitar brands push smaller luthiers like Malden out of the show-room--but guess what it means you get a guitar that's rare, so you won't look and sound like all the rest. Description

The styling and photo work on this cover was surprising at the time, Johnny Rotten/ Johnny Lyden is all slicked up and in a suit, looking more like a member of the right than the poster child of Punk Rock. Still once inside the music, there is a edge that surpasses the shock of the cover design. p.s. I love the song "Public Image". Nice anthem...

Description

All the best pop tones from The Police, remastered, and re-marketed turned out well for me, all their best sound closer to the vinyl LP from the original Police era, but with out all the mess. "Spirits in the Material World" is one of the most interesting takes on ska composition. Meanwhile "Shadows in the Rain", and "The Bed's Too Big Without You," are missing as is "When The World Is Running Down, You Make The Best Of What's Still Around" which is really too bad as it's one of their only songs that paints a picture of our global moment without loosing much over the years.
