Ernest Alexander Messenger Bag

First to recommend

Description

Steep price, but a great bag. Fits a laptop and just enough stuff to make it a useful carry on. Still slim enough for everyday use.

Super high quality, very cool styling, and every little detail done well. Handmade in NYC apparently. And the Bonobos guys say they are cool, so you'll have them in your corner.

One bad- the main straps are old school buckles. They should have used snaps or magnets, anything quicker.

Description

I know you can't read the text here, but for Beach Boys geeks, like me, this is like the most brilliant thing ever. It diagrams a number of classic Beach Boys songs into categories, all culminating at Surfer Girl.

Whole Earth Discipline: An Ecopragmatist Manifesto by Stewart Brand

First to recommend

Description

A really really great book. Easily occupies a place on my top 10 favorite books of all time shelf.

My favorite part about Brand is that he spends as much time working on how to think as he does on what to think. So while the book is as a whole is about the preservation and advancement of our civilization, it's also a great book about APPLIED decision science, organizational behavior, various particular fields of study, engineering, and history, and much more. Probably one of these best guides about how to think through problems and how to understand how organizations- from business up to nations- react when faced with decisions (and how to persuade them).

As a fellow engineer, he see the world a lot like I do (in his won words as a series of solvable design challenges), so it all just resonates.

Amrom "All Cash" money clip

First to recommend

Description

I'm a money clip guy, but I've always had a problem with the aesthetic. Something garish and oldman-ish about it. This "All Cash" money clip from superinventor Amrom is perfect for me.

An ultra thin minimilist design- it has the same feel and size as the cash it holds. I've got one in pesos and one in Canadian $.

I'm pretty tall and one of my morning pet peeves is getting waaaay low to rinse my mouth after brushing my teeth. I'm far too lazy to keep a glass nearby (and keep it clean) so this tooth brush is goddamn genius.

I'm savage with my phone so a cover is necessary. I hate bulky rubber covers; Gelaskins are perfect.

I think I've lived in LA long enough too pull this shirt off. Pair with some well worn denim, a knit beanie, and a pair Frye boots and you are are ready to lay siege to Urth Caffé.

This awesome little projector throws up a fireworks display on your ceiling and walls. I wish I had one of these in my dorm in college- 1000x better than a crappy disco ball.

Gerber Crucial Multi-Tool

Description

Only the crucial components: Knife (w/ serrated section), pliers, screwdrivers, bottle opener, wire cutter. Super light, very cool design, and comfortable to use.

My Leatherman Wave has never let me down, but it sure is heavy. I'm going to give the Crucial a try and see if I miss all the extra tools.
