Description
I enjoyed reading the Nancy Drew books when I was a preteen, so I enjoyed the "blast from the past" when I came across these cool retro magnetic postcards. (I was secretly relieved I wasn't expected to share them with anyone else -- or at least I don't think they're meant to share. Gulp.) (via Author Incubator: Gifts for Writers)

Make A Difference Day: Oct. 28, 2006

Description
Created by USA WEEKEND Magazine, Make A Difference Day is an annual event that takes place on the fourth Saturday of every October. The most recent event was Saturday, October 27, 2007. You decide what you want to take on as a project -- something as big or as small as you wish. The idea generator on the site can help you to zero in on a project, if you're having difficulty coming up with an idea on your own. You can also read up on projects that have been tackled by families, groups, and individuals in years past. The project tools tell you how to plan your project, get volunteers, and line up publicity. (USA WEEKEND is a media outlet, after all.) It's a cool idea. Last year, 3 million people participated.

Miniature Newspaper Art Pins from Carolyn Forsman

Description
What a cool idea -- to turn yesterday's news into today's art (or, to be more specific, a miniature newspaper that can be pinned to your sweater and worn as a piece of art). It's just one of the many creative inspirations awaiting you in Carolyn Forsman's very aptly named "Conversation Pieces" collection.

Dirty Dancing Purse
2 people recommended this item
Description
I'm not necessarily suggesting you want to buy this particular purse -- unless, of course, you've set up a secret shrine to Patrick Swayze in a dark corner of your basement, and every night, when the kids are in bed, you head downstairs for a a bit of Dirty Dancing that takes you back to those hot, steamy, pre-kid nights of the late 80s....
What I'm impressed with here is the way that the designer has reused something that was obviously meaningful to him/her to create a unique and personal item. This makes me want to check out the Incessant Fad website where this item is available for sale and it also gets my me thinking about what other bits of junk (sorry, Patrick!) from around my own house could be repurposed in all kinds of fun and creative ways.
