Laphroaig Single Malt Scotch 15 Year
First to recommend
Description
This is my (affordable) desert island spirit. Everyone who believes in a celebratory scotch once in a while should keep a bottle of this around. It's remarkably more rich and smooth than the 10 year.

Michael Kors - Men's Dress shirts

Description
A comfortable fit for men who don't have the super-slim torso expected by a lot of casual dress shirts today. Bright colors hold up well using machine-wash-cold, tumble-dry-low settings. (via Rue-La-La)

Leica MP

Description
Out of the many cameras I own, including digital and film SLRs, rangefinders, medium and large format film cameras, I end up using this one 95% of the time. It's the least amount of stuff between a photographer and the subject. Film speed, shutter speed, aperture, focus. That's it. (via Leica)

Black & Decker Simple Start

Description
It works. I bought it when we had a junker car that had intermittent electrical problems that weren't worth the cost of fixing. I used it twice and it definitely paid for itself in peace of mind and the lack of need to call a tow truck or wait for a passing driver in the wilderness.

3-LED Dynamo-Powered Crank Flashlight

Description
I recommend this as the backup/emergency flashlight and for once-in-a-while use, and for those who do not want to use batteries at all. It works well, but it takes at least a minute of winding to get a good charge. A minute of winding a crank with resistance is a long minute. I also have a small Maglite that takes AA batteries, and I use the newer Energizer rechargeables which last a long time and keep their charge over time. If you don't use the crank flashlight for a while it loses its charge.

SIGG Reusable Aluminum Water Bottle

Description
I make a berry/banana smoothie for myself in the morning and pour it in here. Keeps it nice and cold. I've also carried coffee in it; keeps coffee hot for a shorter time than it keeps cold liquids cold. I love it and use it every day.

Enameled Cast-Iron 6-Quart Dutch Oven

Description
I've been using this exclusively for baking bread, and to be honest, I'm baking bread every day with it now. It's wonderful and it looks great and it cleans easily. The handle cracked the first time I used it, but I knowingly put it in an oven that was too hot. The instructions explicitly say what the rated temperatures are. I love the classic look too--I wish I didn't have to store it in the oven. (via Amazon)

Canon EOS 5D Mark II

Description
The top choice for professional quality without going to the top-level Canon EOS 1 series (with better weather sealing and higher frame rate). Top-notch quality images at 21MP and HD video. Taking video using a Canon tilt-shift lens or super-fast 50mm 1:1.2 is insane and very, very gratifying. The new 3" LCD is very generous too. I wish I could shoot video through the viewfinder alone (and not have to use live view) and set ISO manually while in video mode, but these are minor gripes. I love this! (via Canon)

Canon Powershot SD990IS 14.7MP Digital Camera with 3.7x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom Coach Kit (Silver): Camera & Photo

Description
Wonderful curves and weight make this easy to hold in one hand. Takes great photos, especially macro, but the real stunner is the video. Takes native Quicktime (.mov) videos that are a snap to upload to sites like Google video. The quality is astonishing, especially in ambient light inside homes, shops, etc. Not as good in low light, but neither is my $1000 camcorder. (via Canon eStore)
