Ricky Swallow - This Time Another Year

Updated Oct 3, 2006

1st to recommend

Description

This is a great catalog from Ricky Swallow's exhibition "This Time Another Year," at the 2005 Venice Biennale, Austrailian Pavilion. Mr. Swallow is a master wood carver of life as we know it, or thought we knew it. The intricacy of the works in this catalog is mind blowing. Not since Bernini have we seen such life exude from a carved object. A carved skull sinks in to a wooden bean bag with all the lushness and orgasmic tension of "The Ecstasy of St. Theresa," in Mr. Swallow's piece "Come Together," from 2002.

I saw this at a friend's house recently. It's a good snapshot of the negiborhood at the moment, and serious fodder for some home owner envy. "If only I had bought 10 years ago. I could be living in a Neutra house."

New York Coffee Cup

Updated Sep 16, 2006

Description

Nothing beats the $.50 cup of coffee in the morning at the coffee cart on the way to work. Don't get too close to your coffee cart vender though. I had to change my morning route when I ordered a coffee and a cherry turnover from my regular coffee cart guy and he replied, "You like poppin' cherries bud?" Ah, New York City! (via loft3)

My afformentioned awesome grandfather. Still making great paintings and sculptures at 86 years old. He's the reason I make art. Got his MFA from Yale in 1947 when artists went to school for the education, not the pedigree. Put that in your pipe and smoke it!

Friends of E1027: devoted to restoring E1027, the modernist villa designed by Eileen Gray

Updated Sep 13, 2006

Description

SAVE THIS HOUSE!!!!! I snuck on to the grounds of Eileen Gray's E1027 house in Roquebrune-Cap Martin, France last summer. To my horror, the house is in shambles.
It is completely falling apart. All of the original furniture has been sold off by its last owner
and the house now sits vacant owned by the French Government. (via irish-architecture.com)

Liberty of London

Updated Sep 13, 2006

Description

A luxurious department store on Regent St. in London, according to their web site, "In 1924 the Tudor building was built from the timbers of two ships: HMS Impregnable and HMS Hindustan." Thus, the Liberty building gives a new meaning to the word POSH (Port Out Starboard Home)

It is hands down the most amazing department store I've ever seen. Everything from Clothing, to Mid-century Modern Furniture. Famous for their beautiful printed fabrics.
