About Me

I’m the owner of Caroline’s Cakes. I grew up in an entrepreneurial family but was sent to a finishing school like a good old Southern girl so I’m just learning about business. I truly feel that what I’m doing is a calling. The caramel cake is our commodity, but our product is the ability to touch people’s lives. Our core values are really just what I was brought up with: manners, grace, kindness, compassion, patience, time. I’ve only been out of my basement 28 months. And we’re reevaluating the business this year. I want to be the best little company I can be. And the money will come. I’m just sort of making a business out of the life I experienced.

What is the next...

Purchase you’ll make?

From a business standpoint: a 40-foot container; from a personal standpoint: plants for my patios.

Trend in design?

I’d like it to be the old way I grew up in the 1950s: hamburgers on the patio with friends with a phone call. We try too hard to stand on ceremony to get together. We’ve lost touch with our sense of community. This world we’re in goes so fast that it steals those easy moments away from us.

Car you’d like to own?

A Mini Cooper S convertible! I know this because I researched it this weekend. With the price of gas, it’s ridiculous to drive the Suburbans I use to transport cakes to work. It’s fun, cute and it doesn’t have a big fancy label on it!

Big step you’d like to make?

I would like to move into my own bakery with sufficient storage and cooling facilites. And that’s where i’m headed.

Fad that will fade?

Shirts that don’t meet the belt of the pants--please! And it’s not cause I’m jealolus! Take that to the beach!

Vacation you’ll take?

Either to the Islands or to Mexico.

Thing you’re going to fight for?

If I had time to fight for something, besides just having great people to work with, I think I’d fight for a fair and honest government. To have so many decisions driven by the almighty dollar is just not right.

Secret that’s going to leak?

That I actually don’t live at the bakery!

Life you’ll lead?

I’ll be in a little cottage lined with books, some good music, a wonderful little kitchen, comforable sofa, little porch with a polly’s island hammock, a joggling board, and a little garden...just cozy. It can be overlooking water too!

Exercise.

Guilty-pleasure food in which you’ll indulge?

Of course it will be chocolate or caramel! I'm being so good these days....but if i could i would have a bittersweet dusty from Julian’s diner in Harvard Springs, MA.
