About Me

I’m the Director of Interior Design for Sander Architects. I work with my husband, architect Whitney Sander, on the projects that come through our office. We are pretty proud to be able to say that we work with prefab components that let us create high design for much less - and that every project is completely unique, completely custom, and very green. I love what I do. And that’s very, very cool.

What is the next...

Purchase you’ll make?

Ticket home to visit my family in Canada - it’s long overdue.

Trend in design?

Green, green, green. Eco-friendly is the wave of the future because it makes good sense to be kind to ourselves and the planet - and it makes good business sense too.

Car you’d like to own?

Prius, natch. We love to design Hybrid homes that bring great savings to great design while creating a lighter load on the world - what other car is there that does the same thing?

Big step you’d like to make?

Switch to a PDA and finally retire my paper date book...

Fad that will fade?

The obsession with anorexic actresses - I hope. Would love the world to have real women as positive role models for the kids coming along behind us...

Vacation you’ll take?

Weekend at Hope Springs Resort in Desert Hot Springs - minimalist design, maximum relaxation.

Thing you’re going to fight for?

Honesty and a sense of humor.

Secret that’s going to leak?

That green design does not cost more - it can save money - which is huge, since that’s what has been holding back the world from going green.

Hollywood blockbuster going to be about?

Don’t know. Don’t care. What about the next documentary - there are so many amazing stories needing to be told. I loved “My Architect”�, “The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill”�, “Poetry in Motion”�, “Born into Brothels”� - I never seem to tire of documentaries.

Life you’ll lead?

Doing my best to be kind.

Fountain of youth?

Laughter. Not kidding - on the worst days if I find a way to laugh I remember that it’s great to be alive.

Book you’ll read?

“X out of Wonderland”� and “Candide”� - both for my book club which is in four days! I’m a voracious reader and I have been sidetracked by the rest of the pile by my bed.

Thing that will change the world?

When economics and green design cross - it’s already happening - read “Natural Capitalism”� by Paul Hawken, Amory Lovins, and L. Hunter Lovins if you want to be inspired.

Guilty-pleasure food in which you’ll indulge?

Dark chocolate.

Person to whom you’ll say, “I love you”?

Do I have to pick one? My husband. My mother. My family - every day that I can - and I count myself lucky every day that I get to say it.
