Maglite flashlights
5 people recommended this item
Description
Made with precision in the USA, always useful, and you can never have too many. I prefer the LED versions.
Keep a big one in the car, it can double as a self-defense aid.
I have them all over the house, and they make great gifts. Love finding unusual colors!

Rubik's Twist

Description
While not very "rubik cube-y," my son (13) who is obsessed with the regular Rubik's Cube really enjoys this toy. Every time I pass his desk at home it is a new shape. It's well made and fun to play with.

Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner
First to recommend
Description
You probably think you know what a scanner is and have avoided using one because they are slow, tedious and just more trouble than they are worth. Definitely not true of the ScanSnap!
Not only can you feed pretty much any scrap of paper through this scanners sheet feeder, it will feed them through blindingly fast. I have scanned entire thick books in a couple minutes after cutting off the spine. (Okay, you are probably very unlikely to do this, but still, it was fast! I do it so all of my recipes are on-line). Completely painless scanning.

Description
While this isn't much to look at, the sound is fantastic. It is clearly designed to allow you to really make music with it. Years later this is still something we own and play with.

VOX amPlug Headphone Guitar Amplifiers
2 people recommended this item
Description
I bought a VOX amPlug for my son 7 months ago so that he could practice his electric guitars without disturbing us. He loves the sound and it is a lot more convenient than practicing with his main amp: he can practice wherever he feels like it. This is the type of product that has a loyal and passionate following.
The sound is great and it is reasonably priced (under $50). This is a great gift for any electric guitar player you know. Even if they own one, go ahead and get them a different sound: they'll still appreciate it if my son is any guide.

White Home Painter's Caulk
First to recommend
Description
I only recently discovered painter's caulk: it is like white out for home repair. A contractor I hired showed me how to fill gaps between baseboards and the wall with this, as well as the miter joint where baseboards come together. It goes on easy, dries fast and takes paint well. It really improves how trim looks.
Trick for spreading the caulk without a special tool. After apply the caulk to the gap/joint you are filling, dip your finger in a solution of half liquid dish soap and half water. Your finger will glide across the caulk and give the right shape to the finish.

Porter Cable 3700L Miter Saw
First to recommend
Description
The "L" is for laser, need you know more? Okay, maybe you do. Porter Cable tools are always top notch and this is a great miter saw even without the laser guides, but this dual laser guides (one on each side of the saw kerf) make it awesome.
Cutting 45 degree angles and getting the length right is always harder than it should be. Being able to line your mark up with a laser and cut perfectly the first time really makes all the difference in the world.

Purdy Glide Elite Paint Brush
2 people recommended this item
Description
Purdy paint brushes are in investment that will pay off immediately. I won't start a painting job now with out these brushes. Take the time to clean them well (including using a wire brush or comb to get the last of the paint out) and these will last years and many, many paint jobs.

Purdy Pro Dove Roller Cover
First to recommend
Description
After much experimentation I settled on this roller cover. It is less prone to runs and inconsistent coverage than other roller covers I have used. It is a little pricier, but it cleans up well so you can use it for multiple coats.

Gifts for drummers and wannabe drummers
