Esquire

Description
Great stories, often moving, sometimes infuriating. What else could you want from a magazine?
Ironically I never take the fashion advice from Esquire, but I often take the cooking advice. Some of my favorites recipes (pork slowly roasted overnight anyone?) are from Esquire.

Jishaku magnetic strategy game

Description
A surprisingly fun game played with strong magnets. Try to keep the magnets from flying together through careful placement -- kind of like Jenga in reverse. A good party game.

BioShock - Xbox 360

Description
Universal and Gore Verbinski are going into “Bioshock.” Studio has signed a deal to turn last year’s hit videogame, which won numerous awards and sold more than 2 million units worldwide, into a film. The “Pirates of the Caribbean” helmer is attached to direct and produce. “Aviator” scribe John Logan is in talks to pen the screenplay. “Bioshock” publisher Take-Two Interactive is getting a multimillion-dollar advance against gross points on the pic. It’s believed to be the biggest videogame-to-movie deal since 2005, when U and Fox signed onto the since aborted “Halo” pic, for which Microsoft got $5 million against 10%. Take-Two executive chairman Strauss Zelnick said the “state of the art” deal is structured so that “Bioshock” won’t end up in turnaround like “Halo,” which is back with Microsoft. (via Variety)

Incra Ultra Lite Jig Woodworking System
First to recommend
Description
Cutting wood accurate to a 1000th of an inch is insane. This jig makes it possible: dovetails, interleaved dovetails, wooden hinges and many other joints that would be impossible without it are not only fairly easy, they are fast.
The primary downside to using this is that getting setup and accurate at the beginning is critical. This can be done quickly, but takes practice.

Vinturi Wine Aerator

Description
They had me at "...without the wait."
Sure, wine decanters are lovely to look at, but if getting to the savoring part of the wine tasting experience is time-sensitive, this baby does the trick.
It's portable, with a little carrying case, so I can get wine to breathe quickly at parties, too.

These pop-up books look incredible: beautiful 3D beasties in gorgeous color. Individually these books are hard to find, but the collection is available at Amazon for a reasonable price. (via Wired)

Spy Video ATV-360 remote control car

Description
I doubt this is stealthy enough to actually spy on anyone, but I like the idea that I could send this car in check on my kids. Over-protectiveness is less suffocating when it is done in novel ways...

Dancing Spoon: Pan Seared Steaks

Description
I got a smaller stainless steel pan that I used exclusively for cooking eggs. I liked that pan enough that I decided to try a larger size after reading a recommendation on Bad Home Cooking.
I normally use a cast iron pan, but I am not always in the mood to put up with the weight of it. This pan comes highly recommended from Cook's Illustrated and has been a joy to use. (via Bad Home Cooking)

Anything from the Cook's Illustrated folks is going to be thorough and lead to great results. Not always the most enjoyable read, but the it is the results that matter.
Worth it for the chocolate chip cookie recipe alone.

Time Management for System Administrators

Description
I picked up this book because Borders was closing down, it was on sale, and it looked somewhat interesting. It was actually fairly mind-blowing for me: I have managed development teams for about 20 years and only recently started to have significant system administration duties. This book pointed out how different the sysadmin philosophy is from software development philosophy.
I think anyone involved in system administration should read this book. It explained to me the reasons for the things I had observed the people I respect doing (yeah, that's you Eric and Joe). This book changed my approach on time management for half my job.
