Invisible Man: Ralph Ellison

Description

An incredibly difficult and powerful book. Read it if you haven't, read it again if you have.

Leisure Class Records

Description

A good label with some great artists. I'd give special attention to Liz Isenberg, her songs are a beautiful folk/pop medley with some of the best lyrics I've heard in awhile.
So here's a nice little indie music label for ya'll.

Heathers (THX Version)

Description

Okay, so I may have a minor crush on Winona Rider, but only because she used to make really good movies ( I may not have been alive at the time, but still). This is one of those movies that you need to see just to go through the wonderful catharsis of washing everything bad about high school off.

Young Frankenstein is one of Mel Brooks’ best movies! If you are not in the mood for horror flicks on Halloween night, then this movie is for you. It’s fun classic movie to watch.

Cool Hand Luke

If not my #1 favorite, then Cool Hand Luke is def in the top 3. First, let's just talk about how hot - I mean amazing - Paul Newman is. Second, if you're someone who really isn't into "old" movies, give this one a shot. It's a timeless story and the themes are just as true today as they were then. You probably quote this movie and don't even know it. This is a story about a man who wouldn't give into The Man. And NOBODY can eat 50 eggs.

Pink Floyd - The Wall 25th Anniversary (Deluxe Edition)

Description

Admittedly, I'm biased towards this movie. It's one of the few objects of musical taste that I share with my father, so it's kinda important to me. That being said, it is an absolutely mad, mad, mad movie. Do not under any circumstances watch this movie if you are under the influence of anything...

Watch it for the beautiful animation, the somewhat obvious social metaphors, Bob Geldorf shaving his nipple, and the last really good thing to come out of Pink Floyd.

Woodstock - 3 Days of Peace & Music (The Director's Cut)

Description

An incredible documentary that is the closest you can get to being there. While it is worth it for the music alone (the Who, Jimi Hendrix, Richie Havens... everyone from the sixties except the Beatles and the Stones, basically) there are some nice little asides where we actually see the people who were there. For those of us who are merely the children of the boomer generation, it's nice to see them when they were young and... well, not your parents.

Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex But Were Afraid to Ask

First to recommend

Description

As always Woody Allen manages to be both wildly intelligent and just plain wacky at the same time. Many movies may deal with sex more directly or more graphically (there is only one breast in the film, although it is massive) but none will deal with the topic with a better sense of humor.
