About Me

I'm a Canadian designer, based in Vancouver, and I'm passionate about ideas and experience. Growing up enamored with creativity and business led me to study at the Emily Carr Institute. Prior to focusing on design I worked as a painter.

These days I guide creative at smashLAB, where I've been a partner for the past seven years. As the firm's Creative Director I foster an atmosphere of pragmatism and design-focused thinking here. I've directed a number of projects for start-ups and national organizations, including MDA, Northern BC Tourism, CN, and Canadian Heritage.

I'm particularly interested in creating work that builds a dialogue with viewers and engages them in experiences. My work has been recognized by HOW Magazine, Applied Arts, the Lotus Awards, Rockport Press, and Graphis; it has also been featured in: Desktop Magazine (Australia), PingMag (Japan) and Behance. I've presented at events for groups including the AIGA, New Media BC, and VIDfest.

In 2007, my peers and I spearheaded Design Can Change, which is an effort to unite designers to address climate change. I'm member of the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada and the AIGA. I write about design at IdeasOnIdeas.com.

I'm happily married to a kind and wonderfully interesting woman named Amea. She and I have an eleven month old son named Oscar, who is always finding his way into some kind of trouble.
