shu uemura | PREMIUM RADIANT BLUE FALSE EYELASHES

First to recommend

2 people recommended this item

Description

If Trinity from the Matrix was going out on the town dressed to metaphorically kill (as opposed to slaying agents), she would definitely sport these super-cool false eyelashes from Shu Uemera's Tokyo Lash Bar collection. I ordered a pair these eyelashes for my wife. I think these Shu Uemera lashes are so next-gen, a real precursor to bio-engineered beauty we have all read about in posy cyberpunk and steampunk novels, as well as seen running around in Anime for a few years. Shu Uemera Tokyo Lash Bar: life imitating art.

BTW, these are supposedly re-usable but don't forget to buy the adhesive

BatPhone

First to recommend

Description

The Dark Knight (aka Batman) is one of the most bad-ass superheroes out there. And what better way to get a a hold of Batman (as well as unleash you own inner Dark Knight) than to talk to the world on your very own Batphone.

Every call is, by definition, super-important when talking on the Batphone. Whether it is Commissioner Gordon looking to have Gotham saved (again!) or your spouse telling you to pick up the kids, life takes on a heroic- if campy- feel when chatting on such stylish comm gear.

Now if only we could get a Bat iPhone

James Clavell - Tai-Pan: a Novel of Hong Kong (Unabridged)

First to recommend

Description

Tai-Pan is an amazing book, I think Clavell's best. Tai Pan takes place at the birth of Hong Kong in the 19th century and focuses on Scotsman Dirk Struan, Tai Pain (supreme boss) of the Noble House (ie the biggest opium/tea trader). The cast of characters is vast and vaired and includes one of my all time favorite characters ever, Mai Mai, the concubine of the Tai Pan. Mai Mai is smart, super-savvy, speaks in a "fantastical good" pidgin English, and is hilarious, hey-yah!.

Tai Pan is the right mix of adventure, history, and fine, insightful writing about the human condition that makes this a must read bordering on fine literature (w/out all the pomp and tedium that often goes along w/that classification).

I have read Tai Pan and am now listening to this audio version. In general, I like audiobooks and the recording of Tai Pain is one of the best I have ever heard. The narrator does an absolutely superb job of capturing the different voices, accents, and personalities of the characters throughout the 25(!) hour recording. I wish I could deliver and read aloud half as well as this guy.

If you run a company, have to evaluate and judge people in high pressure circumstances, and want to see a portrait of how a fictional master entrepreneur conducts himself, do yourself a huge favor and read Tai Pan. I promise you that you will not be bored

2001 Uvaguilera Ribera del Duero Palomero

First to recommend

Description

Palomero 2001 is a totally delicious, big, earthy Spanish ribera w/an awesome nose on it. It is unfined so it really retains a lot of the earthy terroire flavors and accents that I love in big, bold reds. My friend and serious oenophile, Paul, brought this Palomero to dinner last night and we slurped down a bottle. Goes best w/flavorful food as the wine is pretty potent taste-wise. The palomero is the sort of juice that makes me love wine: it is big, deep, and can be a great compliment to those times you are in a mood for an existential brood over a glass of wine or wanting to celebrate. Great finish on it too. (via Paul)

Perini Navi sailing yachts

First to recommend

2 people recommended this item

Description

I grew up on/around boats and am totally in love w/the ocean. I have spent months of my life aboard boats and love the freedom, vitality, stripped down simplicity, and sense of connectedness of life aboard a ship in blue water. Perini Navi is the premier sailing yacht maker and they have built one of the most beautiful ships I have ever seen in person, in this case the Morning Glory (pictured above).

The Perini Navi Morning Glory was owned at one point by Rupert Murdoch and is one gorgeous vessel. My personal ambition is to have a global cruiser like the Morning Glory that I could do trans Atlantic and trans Pacific crossing in, have all my friends aboard for truly awesome surfing trips around the globe, sail the Antarctic and Arctic, and also donate time and operating costs aboard to ocean conservation organizations (ie use the ship as a research vessel). (Craig Venter, the founder of Land's End, and, I think Donna Karan's cfo all either used their yachts to do research themselves or lent them to research orgs which I think is totally cool. Personally, I would love to have the time to do more oceanographic research. My dad had a small boat and we did some research for the Natural History Museum and I also spent 3 months aboard a schooner doing a senior thesis on global climate change and seaweed distribution patterns in college)

Gulfstream : G550

First to recommend

Description

OK, I admit it, I really want a G550. These are the sweetest private planes in the sky (I think but can't say I know from first-hand experience). I know it is excessive, bratty, totally uneccessary, and not eco-friendly but I still think Gulfstream 550 is a beautiful machine. If I ever had a machine like this, I would buy at least 5x my carbon footprint in offsets to make up for my wanton self-indulgence. The planet can rest easy, however, as there is def not any immediate danger of me being able to afford one of these and I would buy a sailing yacht (much more eco-friendly) first anyway if I had that kind of money.

Metolius PAS - Personal Anchor System

First to recommend

Description

I love my Metolius Personal Anchor System. I use it as a replacement for my daisy when free climbing (ie not using it for aid). Great, fast, and safe way to clip into an anchor, as well as a good way to clip into a bolt when resting between burns on a hard section on your project. Plus, I also use the PAS as a back-up loop when rapping. Fast and safe. Bomber design and construction, as always, from Metolius

Jim Barry 'The McRae Wood' Shiraz 2003 online now

First to recommend

2 people recommended this item

Description

I had a bottle of Jim Barry's McRae Wood shiraz over the long weekend and it was awesome. Hailing from New Zealand, the McRae Wood had strong berry flavors that packed a wallop and then left a really nice finish (obviously I am not too good at winespeak). Anyway, I drank way too much of it. At least I got a good dose of resveratrol to help w/anti-aging!

I am definitely going to get some more bottles. Great to drink w/dinner of by itself. Plus I love the simple bottle label.

Mango Uprising- 10.5oz- 24 pack Sambazon Acai

First to recommend

Description

Sambazon Mango Uprising is an acai-laden mango smoothie. Sambazon smoothies are creamy in texture (but dairy free) and are loaded w/omega oils. I find all the sambazon drinks super-refreshing and the guarana in them gives a good energy boost too. Along w/a xocai bar, I often drink a Sambazon Mango Uprising first thing in the morning before a brutal session on my yoga mat or at the climbing wall.

Xocai Omega Chocolate bar

First to recommend

Description

Xocai omega chocolate bars are a super-healthy and tasty chocolate bar. I eat them before a strenuous work-out and they keep me going through-out the whole session. At first, I was skeptical that these little bars would give me enough energy but they totally do. I eat one before a 2 hour ashtanga session and feel fine all the way thru to the final relaxation pose. Good for climbing sessions too, though better for colder days or indoors as the bars melt in the sun.

Packed w/loads of acai, omega 3's, and cacao, the Xocai bars have a good dark chocolate taste and a strong burst of fruit flavor. Some citrus-like, some acai. If you like dark chocolate mixed w/fruit and are looking for a good energy boost, check out the Xocai omega bars.
