Description
I grew up on/around boats and am totally in love w/the ocean. I have spent months of my life aboard boats and love the freedom, vitality, stripped down simplicity, and sense of connectedness of life aboard a ship in blue water. Perini Navi is the premier sailing yacht maker and they have built one of the most beautiful ships I have ever seen in person, in this case the Morning Glory (pictured above).
The Perini Navi Morning Glory was owned at one point by Rupert Murdoch and is one gorgeous vessel. My personal ambition is to have a global cruiser like the Morning Glory that I could do trans Atlantic and trans Pacific crossing in, have all my friends aboard for truly awesome surfing trips around the globe, sail the Antarctic and Arctic, and also donate time and operating costs aboard to ocean conservation organizations (ie use the ship as a research vessel). (Craig Venter, the founder of Land's End, and, I think Donna Karan's cfo all either used their yachts to do research themselves or lent them to research orgs which I think is totally cool. Personally, I would love to have the time to do more oceanographic research. My dad had a small boat and we did some research for the Natural History Museum and I also spent 3 months aboard a schooner doing a senior thesis on global climate change and seaweed distribution patterns in college)

WowWee FlyTech R/C Dragonfly
Updated Apr 30, 2007

Description
The Radio Controlled WowWee Tech Dragonfly is beyond cool. I used to build model planes out of balsa woood when I was little so I could fly them around. Having a flapping dragonfly would have been way cooler. Reminds me of the ornithopters in Dune. Also appeals to the mini-entomologist that I think lives in many inquisitive kids. (via moxie)

Description
Blue Planet: Seas of Life is possibly the best nature documentary series I have ever seen. Costing over $10 million and narrated by the superb David Attenborough, Blue Planet travels the Earth's oceans and captures some truly spectacular footage from the deep benthic depths to the open pelagic ecosystems to tropical reefs and polar environments. It is AWESOMELY done and is the sort of dream project I want to develop/produce.
I think the sheer beauty of the oceans really comes thru and there is enough science to keep an adult interested while providing enough eye candy to enthrall little kids. Highly recommended

SleepEase by sprayology

Description
I LOVE Sprayology's SleepEase homeopathic sleep aid. I have never been a fan of sleeping pills and think making a pot of chamomille before bed is a hassle. But I totally dig SleepEase.
Made w/valerian and chamomille and other herbal goodness, just spray a couple of bursts under your tongue and you will start to chill out pretty quickly. There is no high w/SleepEase but there is a nice mellow/relaxed feeling that you get from it. And it seems to induce the most awesome, occasionally lucid (ie where you can control the action) dreams in me, which I totally love. So not only can I get a restful night of sleep (I am usually a very light sleeper), I often get the benefit of some pretty wild adventures into the subconscious.
Highly recommended

I got two of the Ant Works blue gel ant farms for my toddlers. I used to have ant farms and LOVED them. Since I was a kid, they have been updated and now use some sort of nutrient space gel for the ants to tunnel in and eat. Super cool

Finally, a laptop bag that does not suck or make me walk around all slump-shouldered. I love my new STM Evolution backpack as it securely holds my 15" macbook, has lots of other slots and pockets, is comfortable, and looks cool. STM really thinks thru their products- the zips are waterproof and there is a built in rainshell (not that I really need that living in LA but I still appreciate their thoroughness in designing the product).
I am never going back to messenger bags. Why did I forsake backpacks for so long- they are the new Net Warrior briefcase.

Description
FatBoys rock. We have a giant one at home and it is both super comfy and super-durable which makes it ideal for a house w/2 toddlers. The kids like to jump into it or have me toss them onto it. I like to flop into it after chasing them around the house for hours.
Plus you can stack up the FatBoy so it is more like a regular chair where it has a back and a seat.
Comes in lots of fun colors and sizes/shapes too so they are plenty cool looking for the design snob in all of us (in other words, its not your 1970's nylon beanbag chair)

I dig cufflinks and I dig bees. (I love honey and I think the whole collective intelligence thing that bees do is just plain cool.)
My wife, Kira, has excellent taste, and she got these Jan Leslie cufflinks for me in silver. (I am not a big fan of gold, plus they are soooo pricey in gold).
Anyway, these are hands-down my favorite cufflinks and I wear them a lot. People often compliment me on them as well. I definitely want to get more Jan Leslie cufflinks. (via KiraGould)

Paul Smith combines the best of classic style and British fashion whimsy. I have always been a fan of his stuff and really dig pretty much anything he does w/stripes. So I was very psyched when my wife got me these stripey cufflinks. Cufflinks are one of the few areas where guys can add some bling and color w/out looking like a cheesey moron. I am always surprised that more guys don't wear cufflinks. They help you look more dressed up w/out the hassle of actually having to put on a suit

Description
A good notebook is an essential item for doing biz today and Paper Blanks notebooks are my new favorite way to keep track of my thoughts and all that I need to do. They are beautifully made, very high quality, and quite durable. Really nice, thick paper and very interesting cover art. As you can see, I chose one from the Jali Walls collection but they have tons of other great stuff available. Next one I get will be from the Book of Kells. Paper Blanks could spell real trouble for Moleskin.

Description
One of the all-time best electronica/downtempo albums. Lemon Jelly combines wit, great hooks, cool ambient elements, and great beats. Lost Horizons tends to be a very happy, positive album and you get a sense that Lemon Jelly loves to celebrate life. Ramblin' Man is a perennially inspiring song to me.
Great for long trail rides or runs, as well as those times you really just want to focus on listening to music.

Description
Laloo's Goat's Milk Ice Cream Company is hand made on a farm in Sonoma, CA where the 350 goats roam and graze freely in the majestic fields. These must be some very happy goats, because their milk, and the ice cream that is made from it, is outrageously good. Goat's milk is low in fat and low in lactose, which makes it easier to digest than cow's milk. Other local ingredients are added to make flavors like Chocolate Cabernet, Chevre Chiffon and Pumpkin Spice, which CH highly recommends.
Laloo's Goat's Milk Ice Cream is available directly from the farm. Minimum order is $32, which includes 4 pints of your choice and shipping. Live on the west coast? Find a retailer with good taste near you.

Tagür AKA Blank

Description
Like the better mousetrap, we're constantly trying to design the more stylish sneaker. Burlington-based Tagür is upping the ante with their AKA Blank shoes. These white shoes are an artist's canvas (made from a specially treated paint-friendly surface) on which to express yourself. If you don't feel inclined, just set up one of your "artsy" friends with a Sharpie indelible marker and let 'em at it.
They've taken the idea a step further, jumping on the collabo bandwagon with well-known artists doing custom designs which are sold at auction. Check out "The Show" link for the whole story.
But in the meantime, if you're looking for a trainer that's stylish and understated -- not gaudy like so many of the mainstream athletic brands -- then Tagürs are a smart choice. (via Cool Hunting)

Description
While wandering through Macworld (and after viewing a zillion iPod accessories later), I stumbled upon these little fellas, known as TETRAN, in the back corner of the exhibit hall. There's something vaguely satisfying about seeing that cute spikey thing all wrapped up in those white iPod headphone wires with the earbuds shoved in its mouth. Although the website claims that they're for storing your earbud headphones and as a by product of design, serve as a tool for stress relief, they're really just iPod consumerist criticism all wrapped up in yummy cute goodness. Perfect! They're about $13 each and come in Pink, Green, Yellow, and Orange. However, I did see a prototype for a glow in the dark one at the booth, so check their website for those in the future.

Description
I have a pretty good sense of direction, but every time I visit LA I become navigationally challenged--especially when it comes to trying to avoid the traffic. This trip (I've been here for 3 days, now) has been a breeze thanks to the Garmin Nuvi I've been demoing.
The Nüvi ia a touch-screen GPS device that's small, light and pretty easy to use. All of the maps for the US are built in, so there's no need to download regions before your trip. There's even storage space for MP3s and Audio Books. The on-screen graphics have the right balance of simplicity and information, and the optional spoken directions are critical. The text-to-speech engine does a pretty good job at pronouncing different street names, though is does have the occasional blunder--instead of instructing to exit at Bundy Drive North it said "Bundy Doctor North." Wrong, but forgivable. I haven't demo'd many portable GPS devices, so it's hard to make comparisons--regardless, I like the Nüvi and I'm glad to have it around this week. (via CoolHunting)
