Polar RS-400 Heart Rate Monitor

tracking my heart-rate, pace, distance, etc. real-time always makes running more fun for me. this polar system is hard to beat for that.
i haven't used this part yet yet but it comes with software that lets you do some pretty amazing things - like dictate a specific workout (:10 mins of warm-up at X heart-rate, 400 meter splits at Y pace, :10 mins of cool-down at Z heart-rate) then upload to the watch. the watch lets you know when it's time to do what during the run, when you're out of the bounds you've set, and of course records progress that is uploaded back to the PC to track against goals and previous runs.

Hi Bebe BT-200 Fetal Doppler / Heart Rate Monitor

Description
Is it necessary? No. Is it fun to hear the baby's heart-beat in the womb? You bet it is!
Although you can hear the sound very well, it's not terrific at reporting the actual numeric heart-rate - for that you'd really need to spend a lot more money. But as a discount (relatively) home-use tool (really a toy) this is perfect...

Apple TV

While everyone is talking about how cool the video on this is, I actually use mine more for music and pictures. The slideshow app is awesome on a giant HD screen, and the iTunes music interface is great once you hook this up to your stereo. I'm not a huge downloader of iTunes shows (I use iTunes more as a back-up for my DVR if that somehow misses something) but I do use iSquint to transcode other video I have (home movies, lectures, etc.) into m4v format and love watching them on TV via the Apple TV.

Samsung WEP200 Bluetooth Headset Kit

Description
I burn through Bluetooth headsets and this is the latest. It's included with some Helio phones (the white one is anyway, and I prefer it to the black...) and is about $50 on the street. This one comes with a carrying case, which is very cool and doubles as a charger. And the buttons are big and tactile thus easy to press. Sound quality is good for what it is - I still can't use any of these on the street without ambient noise being an issue...

Etymotic ER-4P Portable Earphones

oh my god do these sound good. they naturally cancel noise by acting as ear plugs and blocking out external sound (which i like much better than those big ole' bose jammies with the battery pack...) sound canceling aside, they sound like heaven. i've never heard headphones as clear as these in-ear or otherwise. they really do sound professional grade - and, like the box says, are the next best thing to live music. amazon has them on sale, which is the best part (although they're still quite expensive for earphones, but still - these could not be more worth the price...) Apple iPod shuffle

Description
I've got dozens of MP3 players and iPods of every sort. For things like running, going to the gym, doing chores in the 'hood, commuting to work, etc. I don't need 60 gigs of music - just a few albums, or a mix, or a handful of podcasts. This beautiful thing lets me take only what I need in an itsy-bitsy clip-on package. I had the old shuffle and never used it; this one I can see myself using all the time. To be sure, there are may times I need a screen, lots of memory, video, games, etc. and I still use my larger iPod for all of that. But you can't beat the size and convenience of this little wonder...
