Avid runner, voracious reader, aspiring writer, and media junkie

My ThisNext manifesto: Good design. New colors. Clean solutions. A sense of humor. I look for all of these qualities in both the people and the products I choose to embrace. And I am always looking. In magazines, on the web, in stores, on other people or in their homes. I ask lots of questions when I find something I like. Where was it made ? How was it made ? Does it last ? Will it make me or someone else giggle ? Will it contribute to a good human or environmental cause ? Is is child friendly ? Will I want to read it again and again and again ? And, thanks to a very eclectic undergraduate education, my aesthetic and intellectual interests are all over the globe. I love yoga and running. High heels and Bean boots. Jeans and jewelry. Email and snail mail. The super cute (i.e. Hello Kitty !) and the super chic (i.e. Chanel). Although I am a Mac user, I still drool over some of the options available within the PC universe. Although I am a vegetarian, I appreciate the value of perfectly grilled steak. Although I am a girl, I know the difference between a five-yard penalty and a personal foul. And, since I am a mother, I always like to take consider the world from a child's point of view.

What is the next…

Town you call home?

State of euphoria.

Purchase you’ll make?

An industrial strength pair of Levi jeans.

Trend in design?

Translucency and transparency, in design materials such as lucite, crystal, mica and acrylic; and in information, particularly corporate and government reporting.

Car you’d like to own?

An original Beetle retro-fitted with a hybrid engine.

Big step you’d like to make?

Forward, rather than backward. Preferably.

Fad that will fade?

Arrogance. Bad manners. Hate mongering. (Oops. That's three fads. But they do tend to hang together.)

Vacation you’ll take?

Running my first marathon: the entire 26.2 sweaty miles of it.

Thing you’re going to fight for?

Hugs for all. As in Hug O War.

Secret that’s going to leak?

Although Obama did not get to throw out the first pitch at the Washington Nationals opening home game, he may just be on the sidelines during the 2009-2010 Blue Devil men's basketball season. (Accompanied, of course, by Reggie Love.)

Hollywood blockbuster going to be about?

It is elementary, my dear Watson, as Jude Law knows.

Life you’ll lead?

Joining the effort to revitalize America (go Braddock, PA !); writing; running; and making the world a more healthy, happening, groovy place to be.

Fountain of youth?

Laughter.

Book you’ll read?

Mac OS X Snow Leopard by David Pogue, quickly followed by his first work of fiction.

Thing that will change the world?

The next generation, who are already tuned in and turned on to our planet as a whole.

Guilty-pleasure food in which you’ll indulge?

Frosting. The only reason for cake. Or cupcakes, for that matter.

Person to whom you’ll say, “I love you”?

My son; that great guy I just haven't had the good fortune to meet (yet); and every member of my greatly extended family (TN included.)

Motto you'll live by?

Mike Krzyzewski succinctly sums it up: education, respect, integrity, diversity, sportsmanship, commitment, loyalty, accountability and excellence.

Place you'll be when your are not on ThisNext ...

Pounding the pavement with Nano in tow.

Movie you'll watch?

"Fame" - Will the new bodies be as electric as those of the original cast ?

Music you'll listen to?

Bomb in a Birdcage, the latest and greatest from A Fine Frenzy, a little Muse along with Florence and the Machine

Celebrity you'll emulate?

Sheryl Crow. One rocking Mom.

Trend that's going to break ...

Hats ! Everyone needs at least one cool hat. (Other than the standard baseball hat.)

Team you’ll cheer for?

Team Humanity. No tryouts. No benchwarmers. Come as you are.
