Description
I think Ratatat writes music for wandering NYC. You wonder why everybody has their white earbuds stuck in their ears at all times? These guys are at least partially to blame.
Good mix of electronic sounds, artfully manipulated guitar, and subtle hooky bass lines. Probably not quite as good as the earlier Ratatat, but still keeping up the tradition with slicker production values and more variety in the noise.

Great music to enjoy a subwoofer. I was trying to come up with a good review/description of this album, but Pitchfork did a good job when they put it on their top 50 of 2006. Check it out:

Along with Ratatat and Booka Shade, my favorite electronica album of '06. Strains of tech house, ambient, groove, and pop, rolled into a nicely diverse set of tracks with enough vocals to keep non-techno purists happy. Good stuff.

Harman Kardon AVR-645 Home Theater Receiver

Description
Good receiver for building up a serious home theater. The pre outs make it easy to add amps, so you can gradually migrate off the already very good built-in power section of the receiver. Get the receiver, get good speakers, get some heavy-duty amps, and by the time you need to replace this receiver, some totally new video tech will have come along and we'll all be listening to 14.4 sound.

JBL LSR6312SP

Description
This is the companion subwoofer to the JBL LSR series. The earlier LSR12P sounds slightly better if you can get ahold of one, because it's got a carbon-fiber front baffle. But this one's got Room Mode Correction, which is pretty badass. Anyway, great sub, perfect mate to the LSR6328Ps.

Sony MDR-7506 Headphones

There's a reason why you see these headphones in every movie, TV show, and music video where the director or sound guy is shown. They've been the industry standard for years, and they still can't be beat for the money. If you're going to spend $100 on headphones, it better be on these. Forget noise canceling and earbuds and Bose, these are better. Try them out - everyone I've recommended them to has been instantly hooked.

Cheap? No. But I'd take these over any other speakers short of Meyer X-10s. Self-powered (internally bi-amped, actually), so no esoteric speaker cables or racks of amps needed, and they've got enough bass to be used without a sub, although the complementary LSR6312SP fills out the system with even more solid low end. You'll hear detail in your music you didn't know existed. And Zeppelin II still sounds damn good.

Haven't seen it yet, but if Faster is any indication, it will be badass, not to mention fast-paced and well-edited by Mark Neale and his crew. Faster was the best motorcycle movie since On Any Sunday, and DTK picks up where it left off.

Look at it. It's great art, and you can walk on it. How cool is that? Some of my favorite designs aren't even on her web site - ask for an updated set of photos. I met Faith at the Bazaart at the Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore, and she's as cool as you would think from seeing her work. (via Faith Wilson)
