My Info

About Me

After college, I journeyed to Japan for three years, for the adventure and to teach English, then arrived back in Chicago, where I lived until 2006, when I got married and moved to rural Michigan to create a hobby farm after 30 years of living in the city! After finishing my Masters in teaching, I worked for a few years, then "retired" to work from home and try to earn a living from our land.

We opened a green living store recently, The Greater Green, and are always on the lookout for new ways to live the green life! That is the journey I am now embarking on...We are currently seeking organic certification for our small farm, selling veggies at Farmer's Markets, and trying to spread the word about the green life. Check us out at www.thegreatergreen.com!

What is the next...

Purchase you’ll make?

Heirloom seeds to plant in our organic garden. Heirloom seeds are not genetically modified in any way- this is my new big cause. Then I'm seriously considering ordering a chocolate subscription to French Broad Chocolates- heavenly, homemade, and, of course, organic.

Trend in design?

Green, green, green! Being eco-conscious is totally hip, and it's making waves around the globe. Fashion can make serious statements, and we're starting to see it everywhere. Pretty soon everyone will be wearing organic cotton and bamboo everything.

Car you’d like to own?

A hybrid!! Or even better, I would love to have an electric car. Something zippy, but tough, stylish, but laid back.

Big step you’d like to make?

I'm going to learn how to make jewelry. I just took my first class. I loved it!

Vacation you’ll take?

One day I am going to travel through Nepal, climb Everest to Base Camp, and marvel at the beauty of the Himalayas. But before that, I am going to a wedding in Key West. Can't wait!

Thing you’re going to fight for?

A President that cares about the environment, about our planet, about us as much as I do.

Secret that’s going to leak?

The foods we eat, the water we drink, and the products we use are not really safe for us.

Hollywood blockbuster going to be about?

A future that is beautiful instead of dark and depressing.

Life you’ll lead?

A business woman!! I've "retired" from teaching and am now starting my own eco-business.

Fountain of youth?

Eat organic food, and use natural, non-toxic cosmetics, cleaners... everything. All the synthetic garbage in today's products is slowly poisoning our bodies. The single most important thing we can do to stay young is eat organic, fresh foods. And do yoga. Hug. Laugh, laugh, and laugh some more. Take long walks in the woods. Play with a kitten. Eat chocolate.

Book you’ll read?

"Animal, Vegetable, Miracle" by Barbara Kingsolver. "Earth: The Sequel: The Race to Reinvent Energy and Stop Global Warming" by Fred Krupp

Thing that will change the world?

Hope!

Guilty-pleasure food in which you’ll indulge?

Strawberry shortcake

Person to whom you’ll say, “I love you”?

My new baby kitty, Ducky, who has we found in a blizzard with her tail frozen to the ground, and who had laringitis from crying so much (I know, I know, she's not REALLY a person....).
