The Day of the Triffids: John Wyndham, Edmund Morris

Description
A new friend gave me his worn copy of this classic book and I can't put it down. The plot will be familiar from many movies, but the end of the world is even more fun in book form. (via Oliver)

Unreal Tournament 2004

Description
I wish I could recommend Unreal Tournament 3 but, as far as I can determine, Epic still hasn't released the linux port. And moving to the couch and turning on the ps3 to play (assuming I learn to operate the infernal two-thumbstick interface in vogue on consoles) reduces to nil the chance that I'll ever return to work.
So I am forced to second Jim's recommendation of UT2004. And why not? Really, it's the pinnacle of hyperactive first person shooters. The concept refined to the point where bizarre behaviors like tele-fragging have become a part of regular gameplay. (via jim)

I think this is intended to be anti-Obama. But, having drunk the kool-aid, I know that Obama can do no wrong and I'd be paying for your mortgage no matter who were in office.

Michelle has a TT 225. It's almost as fun to drive as a 911, and much more comfortable and practical. This new RS version ought to best the base Porsche on all levels.

How do I love my new eee PC? Let me count the ways:
* runs ubuntu linux great (karmic koala): wifi (better range with karmic's 2.6.31 kernel), sleep, accelerated video, audio, power management, webcam, bluetooth
* low price
* weighs only 2.5 pounds
* low power usage means over 4 hours of battery life, a DC converter (power plug) that's about 1/6 the size of the converter for my old 17-inch laptop, it never gets hot
* multitouch mouse
* solid state hard drive (less power, less heat, more crash-resistant)
* expandable with cheap SD cards
* bright screen
* fan can be turned off (less power, less noise)
* RAM expandable to 2GB
