Out of Poverty: What Works When Traditional Approaches Fail
First to recommend
Description
This is the most brilliant book I've read in a long time. If you're looking for a career, consider designing for "the other 90%". The author views poor people as potential customers and has lifted 13 million families out of dollar a day poverty by offering them affordable innovations.

A collection of mostly music videos from the director of "Eternal Sunshine" - (my favorite film). Rent it on Netflix. He's amazingly creative - you'll be inspired. Just the bit of him playing clear drums, where underneath each sits a little boy, looking up - that alone is hilarious. Some of the videos are fantastic. Lucas with the Lid Off, and Jean Francois Coen's "La Tour de Pise" are my faves. I love how he does so many of the special effects in camera.

Every Monday, James Howard Kunstler, the author of The Long Emergency, adds to his blog about the imminent demise of the U.S. as we know it. It's a good idea to keep an eye on the extreme Peak Oil rants, because they're probably right... but the future isn't set in stone, either. Kunstler prophesies the end of the "happy motoring society," and who knows -- maybe it will be a good thing. Or maybe we can put our collective heads together, and come up with a new world that's totally unexpected.

Imagine outsourcing the more boring parts of your job to someone in Bangalore, India. The author tells you how to open up your mind to possibilities so that you have more time for real life. And what I really like about him is how it's not about materialism, but more about travel, and volunteering, and making a difference. Start living your life to its fullest now.

Wall O' Water Plant Protector

Description
Just like last summer, we had frosts all the way up to the end of May. This was my first time to try out these plant protectors. During the day, the sun heats the water, and it's reflected back on the plants at night. They really work! I have a pumpkin plant and a tomato plant that are way ahead of their time. They survived several dips into freezing weather. Brilliant!
