Red and green is so overdone for the holidays, I mean I love red and gold, green and silver, red and green, and all other permutations , but sometimes it nice to see another color combination (though of course it means everything else has to match). Description

Creamy white wool with a discrete swirl. This white capelet with it's big buttons brings to mind Catherine Deneuve. And there is something so delicate about her. This white wool capelet will be perfect to wear to a nice fall or winter dinner. Be that glamorous screen queen!

Christmas Pudding

Description

Some how this year I forgot the Christmas pudding. I usually start it around labor day and then let it sit until Christmas. But the time flew by and I was busy and the Christmas pudding wasn't made. Christmas dinner seemed almost empty without the cake-y pudding that is normally topped with a thick rum sauce. I'm severely tempted to order this Christmas pudding and have a second Christmas feast on epiphany.

Description

Beyond the seeing of family, beyond the delicious meal, I'm looking forward to Christmas because it means I get another apron! After all, one can't host a nice holiday meal without a matching or at very least holiday apron. This Christmas plaid apron has all the necessary components, it's in a Christmas pattern, it's dark, it has discreet and it has velvet trim.

Description

Floor length is just so different. Its all together more formal and less restrictive. Flowing formal like this red gown strike the balance between dressy and oh, so beautiful. The red color is almost poppy like. Some days I think it might be nice if shorter dresses went out of style. But then I realize that it's the dress that hallowed contrast that makes it special.

Description

Shimmer is like a fragile hot house flower. Except opposite in the condition. Shimmer only blossoms in the holiday. The rest of the year it's too bright, too gaudy. But come the holidays shimmer shines again. This sleeveless or strapless shimmer dress is a classic lbd that gets it's little extra from the shimmer and glitter in the fabric. I like it best without the straps.

Why don't you slip into something a little bit more party like (bet you thought I was going to say something else). This holiday sweetheart black dress with rhinestone buckle and rhinestone buttons certainly satisfies that party requirement. The rhinestones will shine, shine, shine as the night progresses. And well, I've always felt a little like Reese Witherspoon in a sweetheart neckline.

Ah, the mix tape. A long forgotten art. Even mix CDs seem to be going the way of the dodo. But this mix tape memory stick will bring it back (at least to some of us geeks). It's invariably a slightly gag gift, but it's so cute and makes me think back to my first car that only had a tape deck (it was an older car) and the tapes I made for it.

My new years eve plans have changed, no longer am I doing the mod 60s party. Instead we are going to bust out the floor length formal here and make it a canapes and champagne night. These beaded wine colored sandals are currently the top on my list of possible shoe choices. There is something about the cold that actually makes me bare my toes more I think, perhaps it's the contrast, perhaps it's the excess, but with jewel colored satin and a big beaded flower, my toes will shine and my feet will look delicate.

If some boy bought me these shoes, he wouldn't have to wrap them, they are already tied in a pretty little bow. Black and high they are the quintessential elegant black heel. Until...until you add in the bow. It's the bow that makes these stand out and the bow that makes me love them even more. Dual toned satin, it's excessive, it's invasive, it's intense.

I had a surprise date (I suppose you could call it that) this weekend and as I dug through my closet for a black dress I hadn't worn recently, I realized while I own lots of party dresses all of them are very specific and I need a nice solid black dress that I can customize and reuse. This dress would divinely suit that purpose. It's a knee length dress with a flattering skirt and boat neck (say hello to my pretty collarbones).

Description

One day I want to wear a full out tartan ball gown to a formal function. Until then think I'll have to settle with this tartan party dress. Being that it's just knee length and is strapless (so you can tone it down with a black cardigan) this dress takes the best of tartan and manages to not make people be overwhelmed with the excess of plaid.

Let's face it, silk is cold. Satin is cold. Every cute holiday dress turns into an air conditioner the moment you step outside almost frost biting your skin. Every dress except perhaps this cashmere ball gown. It's red which is great for the holiday party circuit. It's cashmere which means it has to be a) warm and b) comfortable and it has tulle which gives it body in the skirt. I'd love to try this for this holiday season and banish the frozen cloth to usage in the warmer months.

Description

The most miserable family experience I've ever had, had nothing to do with people. Rather, I was freezing cold. We were driving somewhere as a family and I hadn't listened to my mother and so I didn't wear my coat (it didn't match my holiday dress) so I sat shivering in the car ride down to visit the family getting colder and colder. This beaded black cashmere sweater could have saved me. The beading dressed up the basic black sweater making it dressy enough to match holiday wear The cashmere keeps me warm enough to not freeze in silence as I refused to admit I was wrong.

Bottle Stopper

Description

I was ashamed the other night. We opened a bottle of wine and didn't finish it! This rarely happens at my parties, but then again we had a hefty amount of wine before then. Sticking the ugly pockmarked cork back into the bottle I wished for something like this bottle stopper. The red shiny glass bauble corks in style.

Mini martinis are awesome--though that could have just been the pomegranate vodka talking. The red at the bottom of the cocktail glass reflect up through the liquor of your choice (recommended, pomegranate vodka). The handle fits perfectly in your hand making this a nice holiday cocktail glass.

Description

Jewel toned and exotic I saw these plates in an holiday section, but think they'd work just as well outside of Christmas. The turquoise and red with gold accents spices up the basic white plate and gives plenty of options for matching tablecloths.The arabesque design isn't so overwhelming that it dominates the plate and makes you seem too "themed", but is interesting enough it doesn't seem wishy washy.

What is it about winter that make snow flakes so loved and precious? Combining red and white snowflakes these plates deserve to have appetizers thrown on them and be brought out at my next holiday shindig. Thought they say no snowflake is a like and I see a whole bunch of repetition on these plates. Still their primary colordom makes me love them so.

Polka dots cross the seasonal border to nicely. Red polka dots are perfect for holiday fare or for a spring time cup of tea. These polka dot mugs are perfect for Christmas morning brunch watching the opening of presents and enjoying coffee in your pajamas. Their quality also ensures that when dropped on carpet, they don't break (well from most heights--what can I say I'm a klutz).

Psittacosaurus Dinosaur Fossil Skeleton

It's a dinosaur. An honest to goodness dinosaur. The fact that you can buy dinosaurs amazes me. This one is even so nicely mounted (though I can't imagine having to move it for dusting). The Psittacosaurus certainly would fill a a niche for that guy that has everything.

With my love of shoes and purses it is no surprise that this set of a multi-color shoe and purse made in chocolate makes me want to find a shoe like the one in the picture to wear. In the meantime I guess I'll just have to settle for enjoying the dark, rich chocolate. But a pair of shoes that looked like stain glass would be awesome.

Handmade Bundt Cake Soap

As much as I try not for it to be. Holiday giving is getting harder and harder to keep original. This peppermint bundt cake shaped soap not only smells fantastics it allows me to build original care packages and holiday baskets that hopefully delight the recipient. The soap is handmade and made with natural ingredients so even the most eco-conscious on my list can't complain.

For new years this year, we are thinking of hosting a retro party. Celebrating the new year, by blasting to the past. This 60s mini dress fits the dressy yet still among friends style of the party and with it's light color it'll definitely look nice with the modern flatware that we have planned. And I just might coordinate with the champagne...not that I like to match, not at all.
