I am a native of Southern California. As someone who was born and raised in one of the most beautiful as well as one of the most populated areas in the country, I grew up with an acute understanding of fashion. It was this knowledge that ultimately led me to create a line of clothing for children (Lyla Blu). My husband, documentary filmmaker Jimmy Wardell, inspired me to gain an equally acute understanding of the environment. These two passions, for fashion and the environment, have now converged in my latest endeavor: Get Hip Get Green reusable bags.

These bags, currently available in two styles, both in black that I have designed, represent my commitment to change and a belief that everyone can do something to help save trees, keep marine mammals from harm and preserve natural resources. My dedication has also propelled me into the roll of producer for my husband’s latest film project, Paper or Plastic? The Documentary. As the title suggests, the film documents the devastating effects that both types of bags have on the environment.

The Get Hip Get Green bags are environmentally true. Each is made from partially recycled, non-woven polypropylene, has sturdy straps and a flat insert for easier packing and carrying. They’re stylish and fashionable while also helping save the planet—which, not coincidentally, also defines me, the fashion environmentalist that I am.

A portion of the sale from each Get Hip Get Green bag will be donated to the Green Ambassadors, a group of high school students devoted to living and being green. The group is featured in Paper or Plastic? The Documentary alongside celebrity activists such as Ed Begley, Jr, Kyra Sedgwick, Wyland the artist , Lara Flynn Boyle and Eileen Ryan Penn.

Paper or Plastic? The Documentary will be released in 2008.
