About markhamroberts:
With a firm foundation in the arts-a degree from Brown in the history of art and architecture, a stint at Sotheby's and a board seat at the Cain Foundation, a philanthropic trust supporting the arts among other things-New York-born Markham Roberts was already set up to succeed in the world of interiors. Add in his time spent working under the mentorship of Mark Hampton, and it makes sense that Roberts is thriving in the field.
The designer is quick to credit Hampton with teaching him the ropes of the business, but he says he also learned from his mother, who "had a cool way of using English antiques with wildly bright 70s decor. Our dining room, for example, was acid green geometric foil wallpaper with Chippendale furniture." These many years later greens are still inspiring to Roberts. "Lately I have been fascinated with sour greens and using them with all sorts of color combinations."
Speaking of combinations, Roberts says that he is just as at home working on a traditional house as on a modern apartment, and his varied projects have him traveling extensively around the country. Pressed to pick a favorite among all the cities he's seen, he replies without hesitation: "There's no place like home."
