The Pampered Chef Food Chopper

Description

You have no idea how many times this has saved my wife and I from major tears when chopping multiple onions! Gets the job done so quick you haven't the time to cry! Well of course that's a slight exaggeration but it does cut your time down with dicing things up by a lot and helps to cut the fumes down by getting those dang things chopped and out of your way lickety split! We love this one so much we were lost without our first one when it was mistakenly left in a move that we made sure to buy another the next time we had the chance!

Starbucks Espresso Machine

3 people recommended this item

Description

Although they've now changed to include the maker's name (Saeco) on this machine, the original only said Starbucks Barista. My recommendation comes from years of good service from my personal machine. I have had my starbucks espresso machine for over 6 years and it has been through the ringer with moving from apt, to house, to another apt.. etc. Other than needing to have a good cleaning now and again, it has not failed me ever. I highly recommend this machine!

Erick Scarecrow's Kissaki "Avenger" colorway

First to recommend

Description

After receiving my Kissaki in the mail, I instantly fell in love with this figure. Of course every vinyl that Erick Scarecrow designs has been top notch in my book but the kissaki is yet another one that I can say Erick has nailed it! With the combination of urban design in the form of the sneakers slash Japanese Getas (sp?), and the oversized kimono with a very "now" look, it all comes together perfectly. Combined with Ericks superb ability to create awesome character features in his vinyl figures, this is one toy no vinyl fan should miss! Stands approx. 12" tall, and is made of durable, yet light weight soft vinyl. (currently 2 left) (via ESC Toys @ Ebay)

Kung Fu Panda - Xbox 360

Description

I normally loathe any games related to movies. Most of them seem to be a way for the franchise to make an additional quick buck on the popularity of the movie in question and it seems they usually do so in a quick and dirty way with lame game mechanics and generic game plots - sometimes even only loosely related to the movie itself. Thats not the case with Kung Fu Panda.

Ok so maybe they did just want to cash in on their franchise, but fact is, I think they did a pretty good job of it. Not having seen the movie itself, I can't speak for how it follows the story, but I can say that the plot in-game is fun, interesting and has a nice flow to it, keeping you engaged the whole time. The game play itself is relatively typical platformer style but with enough fun moves and character animations, voices and humor to keep it very interesting. Its always fun to listen to the commentary and the narrative in between levels is funny enough to make me listen to the whole thing.

Granted this is NOT your Ninja Gaiden or Halo 3 but definitely a fun game when you're not interested in the intensity that those kinds of games give you.

Boom Blox (Wii game by Steven Spielberg and EA)

6 people recommended this item

Description

When we finally were able to get my wii up and running after several months, one of the first games I wanted to try was Boom Blox, a game by none other than Spielberg himself. Story goes that Spielberg had to come up with a game soon after playing the Wii himself.

Well its not Star Wars or other super hi-tech, movie-driven game full of cinematics and in-depth plot. So don't expect that. What it is, is a super fun-filled, family game that myself and my 3 boys have had hours of fun with.

In a nutshell, you build or create towers of blocks, and then.. you demolish them! But that is only the game in a nutshell. Within that simple idea is a huge amount of different ways to do those things, including thowing things at the blocks from baseballs to bowling balls, shooting them with a hose or even a gun, and even a "jenga-like" game where you have to carefully grab blocks and NOT make the tower fall!

My review in no way does the game justice. Need time away from the zombies and perhaps something your kids CAN play with you? This may be another of those games, without being too simple even for the adults.

MSI Wind U100 10" Netbook

First to recommend

Description

The MSI Wind is one of the entries into the new mini laptop marketplace. Many companies are offering mini laptops today but I chose the MSI for my wife for a few reasons. For the same price as most of the other offered netbooks (mini laptops are called netbooks now) the MSI Wind comes with a larger keyboard and display (10.1" vs. 8.9" ) while still remaining very portable and in the class of netbook. The Wind comes with varying hardware but ours comes with the Intel Atom processor (1.6 Ghz), 120 GB hard drive, 1 GB of memory (upgradeable to more), built in wireless and web cam. It comes with Windows XP installed on it which is great because I am still not ready for vista. It also has a port for an external monitor, 4 usb 2.0 ports and mic and headphone jacks.

My wife is very happy with its performance and I am with her on this. It is an amazing little piece of hardware! Ringing in at less than $350 for the base model, you can't beat it for personal mobile computing!

Mythic Entertainment | Warhammer Online

First to recommend

Description

I'm not going to do a huge listing on this one. Just a few points. The thing is that there are tons of reviews for this game out there and most of them are very positive, like mine. Warhammer is excellent. If you've been looking for an mmo in a fantasy world, similar to WoW or maybe even a change of pace from wow, like me, well WAR is one of the best games out there today. It may not have the 11 million subscribers but remember it just came out last year toward the end of the year.. so even if it were the better game it would take a while to catch on IMO. Best features of WAR that I like are:

Public quests - quests that happen based on an area that you are in at the time. If you're in the area of PQ #1 for example, you automatically are working toward its end and can join in to gain the rewards even if you''re soloing the game. Very cool, and makes you feel more immersed in the game.

Scenarios - similar to battle grounds in wow but, in a way I can't quite describe, they are better. I wish I could say but it just seems like the scenario battles aren't a bunch of people trying to gank one another constantly and seems a lot more balanced than the horde vs alliance.

Classes are fresh, although pretty much springing from the basics of healer, warrior, ranged and pet class, they are unique enough to feel fresh in this game. Some examples are, Shadow warrior, an archer/melee class for high elves and witch hunter which is a ranged/melee class for the empire.

I believe that WAR is here to stay for some time, or at least, I hope so. Even though I'll still go back to wow and play at soem point, this is a great change of pace.

Fallout 3 - Xbox 360

Description

Fallout 3, the newest addition to the Fallout game series is a great follow up to 2 of the best retro-future, post-nuclear war style games. Although that was a mouthful to say, I have to say that the description fits. This series, for those unfamilar, is based on an alternate reality of our world that is in the future chronologically, but in the past, culturally. What that means is, that Fallout has been known for its 1950s style environment in a post nuclear war era in the future. Its an odd, twisted environment but a very creative one. The two first games set the series to be a cult-hit and the 3rd by far is the best yet, and bound to take the game out of the cult following and into the mainstream, IMO.

BioShock - Xbox 360

21 people recommended this item

Description

Not being the most die-hard FPS fan, I honestly was not sure what to expect with Bioshock. I was shocked (pardon the pun) that I found myself playing this game into the wee hours of the morning the first time I picked it up. This game has a 5 star rating IMO, in spite of it being a 2007 hit, I believe it still remains probably the best, or one of the best games today in the genre.

Graphics are superb, and really draw you into being paranoid with the dark, gloomy environments. coupled with the wonderful immersive sound (I used headphones with my video game chair) You always feel something could jump out at you, and they do that constantly! More than a few times I found myself virtually out of breath running away and/or trying to kill the genetically-modified monsters... The story telling is probably the most interesting I've come across in a long time in a video game. The narrative is told in such a great way, with sound clips you pick up from different items, each part spoken by another character of the unfolding and creepy story. Most games I skip a lot of what would normally be boring storyline but not so with bioshock. It is all very interesting, albeit disturbing beyond imagination... its a book you can't put dow n
