Women's Kenny Scharff Whitney Biennial T

Description

The GAP was once the store to shop at. A few decades later and the GAP isn't quite the epitomy of style it used to be. However, something tells me that the GAP has been slowly getting it's groove back, featuring collaborations with artists, like Kenny Scharff. This adorable scoop neck tee features pictures of children, musical instruments, text and Chinese (I believe) lettering. Over-all it makes for a nice looking print far away and upon close examination (if it comes to that :D)

Triple Five Soul - Women's Assymetrical Polo (Navy)

Updated May 20, 2008

1st to recommend

Description

DIY makes for some of the coolest fashions. However, DIY does not look good if the Y in question is not so artisticly gufted. For these art-challenged people in the world, Triple Five Soul offers a solution. This navy and white polo appears to have had stripes drawn on in permanent marker. The lines aren't entirely parallel, and one side of the collar is significantly higher than the other, as well as the buttons being on a slanted lines. And even with all these apparent faults, this t-shirt is perfection!

Sublimination Kaleidoscope Tee

Updated May 20, 2008

1st to recommend

Description

Some girls avoid t-shirts. The most comfortable and potentially out-spoken item of clothing, canvass for oh so many designers is being avoided. Why? Because the t-shirt isn't girly enough. The shape looks like two pieces of rectangular fabric sewn together, with no thought put into form of the wearer at all. This t-shirt design takes this into consideration, and has added an elastic band waist perfect for belting. Available in three beautiful prints, this shirt is sure to please even the girliest of girls.

Instantly, thoughts of crystal-embellished sweat pants and other awful work-out wear come to mind. Graniph is going to change that. Offering t-shirts with beautiful images of artful, thoughtful designs adorn these t-shirts, like this Pop Up Bilder Buck t-shirt, featuring the image of a cat silhouette staring at a pop-up book with butterflies flying right out of the pages. Hellz Bellz is a brand known for their creative, thought-provoking designs. This tee is no exception. It features a hand with sparkling finger nails with a Marilyn Monroe-esque figure wearing a 'Hellz Bellz' t-shirt dress in the place of where the middle finger should be. All in a bright, eye-burning shade of canary yellow. Now, what do you think it means?

Truly Madly Deeply Lazer Cut Skull Tee

Updated May 20, 2008

1st to recommend

Description

A t-shirt's a t-shirt's a t-shirt, right? Well, maybe not. This cute t-shirt not only features a very original pattern of crowns, fleur-de-lis and other images, but also has cool holes that form a skull from far away. I guess its the t-shirt version of the mullet (business in the front etc. etc.) only, you know, not outdated, hideous and all-together frightening. Skulls hold no candles to mulletts when it comes to scary.

Shiny High-Waisted Legging

Updated May 19, 2008

1st to recommend

Description

I love shiny. It's great in so many ways. I mean, think gold, sparkles, sequins and disco balls. Is there anything not fun about any of those items? They promote happiness, attention and in some cases, bad dancing. However, when it comes to clothing, shiny can often make a perfectly normal person look like the victim of an 80s horror movie. This is why I'm recommending these leggings. They have a shiny, leather look that is sure to be noticed, ut, when paired with a matte skirt or dress the whole effect is played down (but still desirable). This way the shiny trend-du-jour does not also contribute to the making of a hundreds of fashion victims.

Covet Bamboo Highrise Short

Updated May 19, 2008

Description

Do you remember when, about three years ago, everyone knew that low-rise jeans were going out of style? Now, years later, everyone is still sporting those damn low-rise jeans. Not flattering. Finally at least some designers have heard our plea for medium and high rise pants and some of the coolest jeans and shorts have been making a show on runways and in store fronts all over the world. Here is an example of how high rise jeans can look good. Even with its high-waist and old-fashioned styling, you'll look anything like a grandma in these shorts.

Gretsch Americana Series Guitars

Updated May 19, 2008

1st to recommend

Description

There's been a lot of press about Agyness Deyn and her individual sense of style. From her punky boyish haircut to her over-the-top sunglasses. Love her or hate her, she's recently made a new accessory popular that goes far beyond just what she's been seen wearing. Gretsch guitars has recently released a series of limited edition guitars: the Americana series, featuring old-fashioned western imagery, and sure enough Agyness has been seen toting one of these, the 'Sweethearts' model to be exact. These small, stylish easy-to-carry guitars are functionable as an instrument and as a decoration. Of course no one but Agyness could bring these retro-looking relics of the 1950s into the twenty-first century.

Loop Design The Walkman Radio Wristlet with working speakers

So, it's a bag, and a walkman. We've seen it all before. On this bag, however, the speakers work, making you pretty much a walking DJ, and, on the plus side, it's small, 6" x 4.5" by 2" so, if safety vest yellow's not your thing, its easily concealable into another, larger bag.

U CAST Podcasting Kit

Description

Radio shows are so annoying. Who really wants to hear some 90 year old DJ drone on and on about what's apparantly "hot" these days with the youngsters followed by five minutes of incomprehensible cell phone commercials. Podcasts are where its at (despite the lameness of the term 'where its at'). With this Podcast kit from U Cast, you can a use a USB microphone, headphones, sound editing software, and easy to follow directions to get your radio show to all the people's iPods and computers who want to hear good, original music without the cellphone plan details.

CB I Hate Perfume Burning Leaves

Updated May 12, 2008

2 people recommended this item

Description

Perfume is a matter of personal preference. What might, to someone, smell like a sweet summer day, might to another smell like wet dog. And besides, not everyone wants to smell like flowers or patchoulli or sweet fruit. Some people prefer the, er, earthy scent of, say burning maple leaves. It is a comfort to some, reminding them of crisp, fall days, and reminds them of nature in general. available in four varieties and sizes.

Pink Floyd Fighter Pilots - Ladies Tank Top

Updated May 11, 2008

1st to recommend

Description

What's this? It appears to be a t-shirt supporting the band Pink Floyd, but I'm still not convinced... It's not over-sized, it's 100% cotton and it's not a cheap two-dye design. In fact, it's a tank top and not a t-shirt at all, it's a tank top (yeah, I know, 'thanks captain obvious'). Dare I say that this band t-shirt is actually, wearable? Yes, making quality, wearable band t-shirts is Trunk Ltd.'s business. And they do a darn good job of it too. Unofrtunately, the price tage is about as bad as any vintage band t-shirt.

clockamps : Practice Guitar Amplifier

Updated May 11, 2008

1st to recommend

Description

I was perusing Etsy when I came across a very clever innovation, indeed. It seems that some clever fellow from Liverpool has went about converting IKEA clocks into "attractive, portable 9 volt. battery practice amp/ headphone amps". And attractive they are, indeed! So, if you need something small enough to tuck in your bag or pocket so you can practice your electric guitar (or other instrument) on the road- which you might be quite tempted to do, literally, as this design is just so cute you'll want to show it off- then perhaps Clockamp is your answer.

A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation: The Wombats

Updated May 11, 2008

1st to recommend

Description

If you think that all indie pop is more tegan and sara than the kooks, you haven't heard the wombats. Their blend of poppy catchy lyrics and splashes of art rock make them a band worth listening to! And if you're one of those mainstream-ers who won't touch an indie music album if the cover was made of chocolate, this could totally change your opinion that all indie music is a bunch of drug addicts whining and screaming about the depresion that comes with wedgewood plates (it isn't). My favourite tracks on this cd include 'let's dance to joy division', 'kill the director' and 'moving to new York'

Get Awkward: Be Your Own Pet

Updated May 11, 2008

1st to recommend

Description

Be your own pet: one of the best new female fronted garage rock bands and they've just released a new album. Get awkward features the band's signature angry, yet somehow lyrical scream-like-your-mad-but-loving-it vocals set against some pretty awesome guitar riffs. Don't think that just because its a girl singing its going to be all pop-punk emotional ballads, because its most certainly not. If you are going to buy this album, be careful, because some issues of this album don't have such great 'too-violent' songs like 'super soaked'.

Q-Tech
Updated May 15, 2008
No, I do not understand the name of this list either. I remember I was going to write something like "Cute-Tech" for, of course, cute Technology, but then I realized it sounded like "Q-Tip" which everyone knows is the brand name of a cotton-swab on a stick... but I digress. I can tell you, however, the nature of this list: that these are technology-related items that I think are remarkable in function or design.
I'm in Wonderland
Updated Mar 9, 2008
Ever decide to hold an Alice in Wonderland themed tea party in the woods but just can't seem to find the right outdoor furnishings, food and guests to match your lolita dress and copious amounts of eyeliner? No, me neither. A little while ago, however, I had to decorate a basement to resemble the infamous scene from Alice in Wonderland with only a printer and a roll of streamers for a friends party. It turned out alright, but next time this situation comes around, I wont be so unprepared.
Looks like Risky Business!
Updated Apr 28, 2008
The 1983 movie 'Risky Business' is a teen classic no matter how you look at it. Through most of the movie (and from the top the equally famous movie poster) Tom Cruise looks out through a pair of Wayfarer glasses. Now, these glasses are back, and they're been the inspiration for a number of clothing items, going far beyong the eye-wear borders.
Send in the Gladiators!
Updated May 19, 2008
Everyone knows what a gladiator's job REALLY was. It wasn't fighting the lions and tigers and bears (oh my!), impressing emporers, pleasing Gods or defending against Spartan warriors. Their job was to model one of the country;s most stylish fashion items (no, not a toga)! Today, gladiator sandals are hotter than ever. Kate Moss having started the trend a few years ago, but, hey, all trends take a few (thousand, if you count the ancient Romans) years to take off. So, here are some of my favourites.
