Description

I used to think that one of the most understatedly annoying songs of all time is Garbage's "I'm only happy when it rains." I found it depressing and repetitive and it just plain didn't make sense... until now. Okay, I know, a really cute rainboot actually has very little to do with my opinion of that song, but it comes pretty close. I mean, come on! The sweet lavender colour, the smooth, classic rain boot shape! Its just plain cute! Even if this boot can't make Garbage entirely listenable, this boot will help the sun shine a little brighter even when its hidden behind the clouds.

We've all heard of vintage-chic, and we all remember that stage in the 90's when wearing ripped jeans and vests was cool, and because what goes around always comes back around, we are inevitably sue for another period of worn-and-ripped style chic. This sandal is made out of little suede straps, held together by patent 'clasps', and the result is a bright and happy shoe that looks like its virtually falling off of your foot... in a good way!

A nice, functional, leather gladiator sandal that is oh, so tall, and in case you don't want to worry about doing up the endless strappy buckles, you can just zip up. Because being lazy doesn't mean you have to be unstylish!

Grave robbing hasn't been a hot topic for a few hundred years now, but Converse shoes has just proved that burglary is still a big issue... Beyond the grave. Yes, the sneaker manufacturing giant has begun making Kurt Cobain inspired sneakers featuring drawings, and lyrics by the grunge God himself. There are a few models of these shoes, some featuring these embelishments, some styled to look just like Kurt's own kicks. How is this all possible, you ask? With the a-okay of Ms. Love of course. I'm not sure if I approve of these shoes, but Kurt's drawings translate beautifully onto these shoes. I guess punk rock may mean freedom to some, but to Nike, punk rock is just one big cash cow.

Description

How many gladiator sandals have you seen that have so many straps, a heel that looks like an oversized toothpick and far too much fushia adornments to be considered even remotely "gladiator" related. Besides, with that many gaudy embellishments, the whole thing is going to look tacky anyways. This sweet little shoe at least looks comfortable, is in a tasteful color and has enough little touches to keep it from looking boring. It ties close AND offers some ankle support, so you'll never have to worry about needing to stop to readjust your sandal, and laugh at all the other girl's as they try to fix their toothpick-resembling-over-strappy-gaudy "gladiator" sandals. Not to be mean, but to be true to the term "gladiator" of course.

These shoes have that odd, "homeless person chic" feel to them. they are Palladium shoes: one of the most long-lived shoe brand and style there is, probably because, well these durable shoes last a long time. They are worn by soldiers, hikers, boy-scouts and all-around outdoorsmen around the world..... and maybe soon to be you! The top of this shoe can be worn up or folded tastefully down. Not to mention, this shoe comes in awesome colours!

I like gladiator sandals. But I often think, "what would the gladiators think of these modern day interpretations?" Personally, I think they'd be pissed. they are uncomportable, strappy, plastic and heeled. Imagine slaying a lion in those! These sandals at least look true to their origins. These leather sandals wrap up around your ankle and then ties, with a small, almost imperceptible heel. And, they are hand made.

Whenever we see a simple high-top basketball shoe, we originally think 'Converse', but there are so many other of these kinds of shoes available, all with their own take on that tried and true design! These great shoes from Japanese label Sophnet and Visvim have a leather shell and a silver pattern up the back of them, a little sparkle that looks, dare I say it, dangerous?

Everyone knows what a gladiator's job REALLY was. It wasn't fighting the lions and tigers and bears (oh my!), impressing emporers, pleasing Gods or defending against Spartan warriors. Their job was to model one of the country;s most stylish fashion items (no, not a toga)! Today, gladiator sandals are hotter than ever. Kate Moss having started the trend a few years ago, but, hey, all trends take a few (thousand, if you count the ancient Romans) years to take off. So, here are some of my favourites.
