About ninavalenti:
The birth of ‘naturevsfuture®’ was in the spring of 2002. Launched 6 years after graduating Parsons & designing streetwear, I needed to create my own line that would expose my unique aesthetic. The name was inspired by my belief that there is a constant struggle between nature and future, a tension between organic forces and technological ones. Mixing natural & sustainable fibers like organic cotton, organic wool, hemp, soy, bamboo, seacell® (seaweed), lyocell (wood pulp), Ingeo™ (created from corn), along with recycled fiber fabrics such as Polartec® & POP (made from recycled soda pop bottles) I create pieces that have a futuristic edge yet are inherently classic.
Naturevsfuture®’ is an artistic statement in the form of clothing. It fuses classic with cutting edge, & deconstructive with a refined elegance to create a new & exciting look, suiting ones complex personality. Blending natural & futuristic fabric with architectural designs NVF is a new breed of organic futurism via clothing. It’s functional, comfortable and bold, made to truly fit the body.
My designs are a self-generated product of imagination blended with my passions from architecture, furniture, Egyptian art, Radiohead’s music & album covers to Dekooning’s energy on canvas. My inspiration is drawn from all that stimulates the senses. Working with the body as the palette, balance, line quality, rhythm & movement are the elements I incorporate into each piece.
One of the qualities about my line that I get great satisfaction out of is the type of women that wear it. Despite most of the medias portrayal of women having to look trashy or like Barbie clones to get attention, there is a breed of intelligent, independent, talented, strong & beautiful women that want to be taken seriously for who they are not what they flash, but at the same time want to look sexy with a sophisticated & expressive edge. These are the women that really love NVF & wear it continually to important events in their life.
