Y water

Updated Feb 15, 2008

4 people recommended this item

Description

Once I'm getting over the "organic" tag on the YWATER website (how do you make organic water?!?) I'm absolutely getting some bottles just because of their shapes, and the special connectors that transforms them into a construction toy.

the Y bottle, which was designed by Yves Behar comes in 4 flavors, for brain, muscle, bone, and the immune system. (via notcot)

The Roddler

Updated Oct 23, 2007

1st to recommend

Description

The Roddler by Kid Kustoms, is one of those crazy concepts that could really only be imagined in LA. Created by Jamie Coblentz, Jason Albert and Joe Iacono, The Roddler is equal part custom hot rod and baby stroller.

Kid Kustoms will even create custom fins to match your favorite vintage wheels, be them 50's Buicks, Cadillac, Oldsmobile, pearl paints with pinstripes, and of course, custom leather seats in stingray, ostrich, alligator, cow hide and alcantra...

And if you think that's not crazy enough, the Roddler can be equipped with a DVD player and iPod connection, just in case you thought that it wasn't pimped out enough. With the basic model starting at $2500 USD, I don't even want to know what a totally pimped out model would cost. (via oO's very eclectic)

Rum, Whisky & Candles

Updated Oct 23, 2007

2 people recommended this item

Description

Available in Malt Whisky, Rum Agricole, Pastis de Marseille and Cuba Libre, these fragrances aren't your traditional Ginger and Jasmine candles. These might end up making my house smell like I've spent the evening boozing, but I'm hoping lighting them up would have a more subtle effect. (via oO's very eclectic)

Description

I can't think of a better name for this coffee/side table from Studio 1am. Every time someone purchases This Table Will Self-Destruct, the limited edition table is constructed with a pixel missing, slowly eating itself until it's no longer usable. (via oO's very eclectic)

Silicone Travel Bottle

Description

Couldn't resist buying the Silicone Travel Bottle from New-York based designer Paul Koh. The translucent soft silicone makes it easy to fill with liquids, gels or creams, and the 2.0 ounces size complies with the ridiculous TSA carry-on rules. (via oO's very eclectic)

The Tap Project

Updated May 10, 2007

1st to recommend

Description

Why do we prefer bottled water over tap? Tap has an image problem, and The Tap Project in New York is an attempt to solve that.
In some NY restaurant, you could buy tap water in this elegant bottle, with all proceeds going to the UNICEF fund to help children get better access to potable water all around the world.

"Oh How Beautiful (You Are) is a regular, square mirror, except for the hyperbolic, relentless, and infinitely inventive compliments that cover it. Perfect for that first look at yourself in the morning."

Buddha Buddha Bank

Updated Nov 1, 2007

Description

I saw the Buddha Buddha bank in a little store in the Castro district in San Francisco, and I barely resisted buying one of each of the five different models. I couldn't tell what kind of plastic they use, but the banks are surprisingly heavy, even empty. (via oO's very eclectic)

Manoi AT01 Robot

Updated Mar 5, 2007

1st to recommend

Description

I found the Manoi AT01 robot a while ago, but this is the first US based company that I found that sells it. If there is a robot that is directly inspired by Astroboy, this is the one. This is probably the most likely replacement for the dead Sony QRIO.

Description

The Hoodie Chair by Brodberg and Ridderstrale (BRDA) incorporates a pocket in the back of the chair. Probably not for me as this would be yet another place that would slowly fill up with random junk...

I love the concept, however.

MILK- the dream desk for designers

Updated Feb 17, 2007

9 people recommended this item

Description

I've been rationalizing how I could possibly spend thousands of dollars on this desk all morning...

I want one, shortly after I buy the sleek brushed aluminum 30" screen I've been lusting after recently. I probably can't afford one, or at least I'm assuming I can't because the price isn't announced anywhere, and the table looks too good to be cheap.

Designed by serial entrepreneur Søren Kjær (his definition, not mine) the MILK table will be built by danish furniture company Holmris. (via oO's very eclectic)

After creating a series of limited edition designer canvas shoes based on the very french Espadrilles, the designers behind The String Republic are back with a similar concept. This time they've created a line of matching underwear (boxers for him, hipsters for her) featuring graphics by some of the same artists.

And if you don't like any of the existing graphics, they've added an extra twist with a DIY line. Send them your own design and receive a own unique underwear 2-3 weeks later. (via oO's very eclectic)

Wallpaper* City Guides

Updated Nov 21, 2006

1st to recommend

2 people recommended this item

Description

Created in collaboration between Phaidon and Wallpaper Magazine, the Wallpaper* City Guides are great travel guides for the design conscious. They were announced a few months ago, but they are finally available, and at $8.95 each, I couldn't resist grabbing Barcelona, Bangkok and Tokyo, one for each of the major destinations of my upcoming trip.

While they don't have the glossy pictures, maps and charts of larger travel books from National Geographics or DK, I find that their small size and discreet cover make them perfect guides to have in your pocket while you are visiting a city. I just love the clean layout, with tabs to jump to a given section, like Landmarks, Hotels, 24 Hours, Urban Life, Architour, Shopping and Escapes. There is also a foldout city plan in the front cover, and a city map in the back, and even some blank, lined and squared pages at the end for you own notes and sketches. (via oO's very eclectic)

Conspicuous Consumption
Updated Oct 14, 2006
Things that I would love to get if I had more money than brain, but still some definite amount of taste. We are not talking about saving the world from climate crisis, ending poverty or world hunger, this is pure, unadulterated disposable income, disposed of in the most visible, without being vulgar, manner. Think James Bond, not Paris Hilton.
who needs designer water?
Updated Feb 15, 2008
I have a perverse fascination with designer bottled water. To me it's the ultimate perversion from a product point of view (well until designer air is more prevalent) and at the same time a very valid exercise from a design a packaging point of view. The product being the same for everyone, how do you make someone want your water more than all the others? as they say, thirst is nothing, image is everything

Where are the Robots?
Updated Mar 5, 2007
Growing up to a steady diet of sci-fi and leftovers from the exhuberant post nuclear futuristic optimism, the year 2000 and the new millenium was supposed to usher the era of flying cars, abundant power, and most of all, robots everywhere. It didn't quite turn out that way, but I still bought my first robot, a first generation Sony Aibo for christmas 2000, and I've been following the personal robotics movement ever since.
