Dragon Trim Tank Top

First to recommend

Description

I was born in the year of the dragon (that tells you how old i am!) and have a thing for those fire-breathing i-mean-business mythical creatures. The dragon trim adds a bit of glam that dresses up this tank top nicely. (via Ohmtastic)

What to Eat

First to recommend

3 people recommended this item

Description

Marion Nestle wrote the definitive volume on Food Politics (really, that's the title), and I think her latest book, What To Eat, does a nice job of explaining how the issues affecting our nation's food supply touch us on a personal level every time we visit the grocery store. A recommended read for anyone who's having difficulty navigating all the different food movements.

Slow Food

3 people recommended this item

Description

Taking the time to thoughtfully prepare, serve and partake of a meal can be one of life's great pleasures, but in our ever busier lives we are not only forgetting to enjoy our food, we are forgetting *how* to enjoy our food.

The slow food movement isn't just about taking the time to stop and smell (eat?) the roses. It is also a strong base of support for maintaining biodiversity (the Incas had over 240 varieties of potatoes - how many have you seen in your local market?).

The Slow Food Movement has grown to 80K+ members in the past 20 years, and has meetings and events all over the world. For more info on the U.S. branch, visit www.slowfoodusa.org. (via janinemaclachlan)

CLIF BAR Nectar Bar

Description

I agree with the Alisons (who recommended these first), Nectar bars are super. I'll have one as a breakfast on the go or 3pm pick-me-up. They're vegan, organic, and have 5 ingredients max. Pure and simple.

The Omnivore's Dilemma

13 people recommended this item

Description

A great read that touches on a number of the issues affecting our food chain and how they came to be: how subsidies for corn farming turn into feedlots for cattle and sodas in schools; the organic food movement, the industrial food movement and where the twain shall meet; the fad diet machine and why it can be so confusing to figure out what is actually good to eat...and an odd episode in which the author hunts a wild boar.

This book will definitely get you thinking more about what you put in your mouth.

Capay Organic Delivery: Farm Fresh to You

First to recommend

Description

Organic produce shipped to you from the farm. Choose from mostly veggies, mostly fruit or an organic snack pack of fruits and nuts.

True, Capay only delivers local to Northern California, but a quick web search unearths a plethora of services available in other locales. Here is a sampling:

EcoMeal (NY/NJ)
Organics to You (Portland)
Diamond Organics (Nationwide from California)
Organic Delivery Company (UK)
