Great giving and receiving are beyond the exchange of material values. In giving a gift, the gift becomes an expression of who you are (I have great taste, I have unique taste, I'm a cheapo...). In receiving a gift, the experience can become an important emotional experience (They thought about me, they care about me, they love me...).
