Stirrings Cocktail Mixers - Mojito

6 people recommended this item

Description

This is a tasty, tasty way to suck down some liquor, or just to mix with some club soda or sparkling water for a refreshing drink. The ingredients are all-natural, and have nothing artificial to dampen the drinking experience. Definitely something to keep on hand if you don't have time to muddle your own mint.

Etsy Seller: CircularAccessories

Description

I have a shirt I bought over a year ago from CircularAccessories, and it still remains a favourite. Comfortable apparel is silk-screened with unique designs to create something awesome. The shirt I spoke of I've worn with jeans and with skirts, and the nature-inspired designs are some of my favourites.

Boasting duds for women, men and the wee ones, you'll likely find a design that appeals to you.

Ahpeele

Description

One of my favourite hand-screened shirt stores on Etsy, Ahpeele comes out with so many shirts I never seem to have the money to buy.

But if I did, I'd be decked out and lookin' good.

Inspired by nature themes and Japanese prints, the shirts and prints are very nice, with the clothes printed on American Apparel tees, so it's nice and comfy. They're sure to be a regular pick in your closet or drawers.

Ex Libris Anonymous has been making dead cool notebooks out of old books. I still have an extra one that was made from a songbook published in 1912! I've used them for all sorts of purposes: school, journal writing, games, notes, shopping lists and, more recently, baking recipes.

They're super-handy, and a great price for something very unique. If you know someone who still gets analogue when it comes to note-taking and reminders, get one of these for him or her. You'll probably want one for yourself as well.

Martha Stewart's Cookies: The Very Best Treats to Bake and to Share

Description

Man, this book is the JAM! Each cookie recipe has a corresponding picture--it's COOKIE PORN! I am a huge fan of this book, and the snickerdoodle recipe has turned out stellar for me. The ingredients are, on the whole, not too esoteric, so it's home-baker-friendly.

It's well-organised, and the cookies I've made with it have been mainstays of mine.

Control (2007) DVD

4 people recommended this item

Description

This could have been a mess, easily. In many ways, Ian Curtis' short life is a rock n roll cliche - a massively talented singer and songwriter commits suicide - and the sketchy details of his story has become legend among Joy Division fans and music fans.

But it's not. And it's sad, but not depressing. Brilliantly acted by Sam Riley, directed by photographer/video director Anton Corbijn and shot entirely in black & white, Control has a depth and intimacy that's unexpected. Based on the biography written by Curtis' wife Deborah, it's an unsentimental yet loving look at one man's truly tragic end. No wonder he's a legend.

The Violet Hour - The Clientele

First to recommend

Description

Yes, another recommendation for The Clientele! Released in 2003, this album is a continuation of the moody, melancholy dream pop seen in their eps, culminating in this first full-length album. Truly beautiful, the soft delivery of Alasdair MacLean combined with the gentle melodies make 'The Violet Hour' a prime soundtrack for looking out a window and doing some people-watching with a glass of Scotch.

Or perhaps for a bit of reminiscing with that same glass of Scotch.

Holiday - The Magnetic Fields

Description

I'm very fond of The Magnetic Fields, and this particular release has some of my favourite songs, and the album is fantastic as a whole. Stephin Merritt's talent truly shines in the arrangement and his deep voice resonating in many of the songs.

Originally released in 1994, this is a reissue from Merge Records, and a great way to acquaint yourself with The Magnetic Fields before splurging on '69 Love Songs.'

Labor Days - Aesop Rock

First to recommend

Description

My introduction to Aesop Rock was his song "Labor Days," which is probably one of my favourite songs in 21st century hip-hop. Raw, yet well-delivered with a side of bitterness and an incredible production thanks to Blockhead, the track used to be played up to ridiculous levels in my old Corolla.

The rest of the album is great, too, showcasing Aesop Rock's talent that still continues today. I was fortunate enough to have seen him live last year, and he performed some of the songs off of 'Labor Days,' including "No Regrets." Good stuff all around.
