About Me

A native New Yorker, Randy Ridless is a somewhat traditional designer who rebelled against his mother's affinity for modern design. "I loved going to the period rooms at the Metropolitan," he recalls. "I would come home with drawings I had made, and try and convince my mother that we should make our house look like that."

As a young man, with childhood memories of making his own dream houses out of cardboard shoeboxes in suburban, Ridless was captured by the highly stylized windows at Macy's; this led to a decade buying and arranging antiques for the department store. He made the transition to interior designer after David Easton came to give a talk at the store, and Ridless "begged and begged" him for a job.

"Working for David opened up a whole new world for me," says Ridless, who now spends half his time on residential projects and the other half on designing retail stores. In his "spare" time he designs furniture, rugs (such as his new collection for Stark) and design accoutrements. It's a rich life-and a long way from cardboard.
