What is the next…

Purchase you’ll make?

Nokia 9300 – the next evolution beyond BlackBerry. A truly smart phone.

Car you’d like to own?

It’s the car I own, Subaru Outback LL Bean edition. (Heated seats!)

Big step you’d like to make?

Haven’t written a book since 2000 (How to Dot Com, Entrepreneur Press). Want to write another in the next few years.

Vacation you’ll take?

New Orleans, this summer, with the Significant Other (who’s giving a talk about cocktails at a food event). The Big Easy is the domestic location for ’06.

Thing you’re going to fight for?

Creating a viable, meaningful Friends of Rutgers Philosophy, an alumni support institution for this great philo dept. See http://www.mcgarvey.net/Friends-Rutgers.pdf, a newsletter I helped create on a pro bono basis.

Secret that’s going to leak?

New Jersey politics is hideously, endemically, pervasively corrupt. Really, it is a secret, isn’t it? If not, why hasn’t anybody done anything about it?

Hollywood blockbuster going to be about?

Does anyone still care about movies? How 1950.

Life you’ll lead?

I’m leading it. Always wanted to be a writer.

Fountain of youth?

Not worrying about youth. 60 is the new 40, dude.

Book you’ll read?

Interpretive Reasoning by Laurent Stern (Cornell, 2005). Thinking about aesthetics, written by a former professor of mine. Also on the shelf: Daniel Dennett’s polemic against religion, Breaking the Spell.

Guilty-pleasure food in which you’ll indulge?

Steak frites – love it as Marseilles, also at Steak Frites (sic), a Union Square eatery. Buy a bottle of cheap French wine and that is a perfect meal. Best Thing about New York: The theater. I rarely go in to meet editors, but go in twice a month for the best theater in the world. Recently saw Faust in the East Village, a staging of Howl on the upper Eastside, Jersey Boys on Broadway, the (flawed but still fascinating) Faith Healer on Broadway. Theater is a mind stretch.
