Moleskine - Small Squared Notebook

First to recommend

2 people recommended this item

Description

Most people have a PDA, a laptop, or a phone that'll hold information galore inside of it, but almost no one keeps notebooks handy anymore. Once you start carrying a moleskin around, you'll wonder why you didn't. It's great for jotting down numbers, overhead conversations, things to do, ideas, short stories ... you name it. I use the squared version that has grids on every page, but they make them in ruled and plain versions, and even have music and storyboard notebooks for the budding aritsts. It has a pocket in the back to hold odds and ends (I use mine for stamps and business cards) and an elastic band and bookmark keep everything in place.

Dr. Grip Mechanical Pencil

First to recommend

Description

I need pencils for everything from crossword and sudoku puzzles, to quick sketches in my notebook. Can I ever find one when I need one? No. However, the Dr. Grip pencil from pilot is something you'll find yourself keeping around. It feels like a pen in your hand, has a comfy grip, and it stores erasers and extra leads in the top. It's a handy tool that'll be right at home in your bag or purcse.

If you're anything like me, then you really hate crunching numbers and trying to figure out how much you have, and how much you'll need to put away to save for your retirement. Mortgage payments? Forget about it. This little calculator from Texas Instruments can do it all for you. In fact, it'll do just about everything except make the payments for you. Plus, it's so affordable, you don't even need the calculator to figure out how to pay for it. (via simplify, numbers, calculator, figures, organize)

Emerson Research Dual-Alarm AM/FM Clock Radio with SmartSet Automatic Time Setting System

First to recommend

Description

The SmartSet clock literally sets itself. I don't know if it uses radio waves, something in the electrical wires, or just plain magic -- but it's spooky and I love it. You don't even tell this clock where you are. You just take it out of the box, plug it in and BING it sets the exact right time, and the date. I'm still slightly afraid of what powers this thing, but I love having it.

Bottle Opener Key

Description

Okay, you need to open a bottle, and what do you not always carry with you? That's right, a bottle opener. Some people will have an opener dangling from there keychain, but frankly that's a bit white trashy. That's why you need THIS. It looks like an old-fashioned key, but it's secretly a bottle opener. You look retro, and you can open bottles. What could be simpler?

Cuisinart TTG-500 Two-to-Go Coffeemaker

First to recommend

Description

Something else my Dad can't live without. In the mornings, my pop likes to give the person he'll be working with a hot cup of joe. This Cuisinart little two-to-go coffee maker literally makes it the easiest thing possible. It brews the coffee, separates it out into two stainless steel travel cups, and all with no mess. My Dad swears by it, and he purchased some as Christmas gifts. This is from the guy who normally gives people only scratch-off lotto tickets at the holidays, so that's really saying something.

Chef's Choice 685 International Deluxe Cordless Electric Teakettle

Description

Okay. I love tea. Get over it. In fact, go ahead and laugh at me, because while you do, I'll be enjoying a delicious cup of tea. Once I got one of these, I never looked back. It makes tea a complete snap, and when that happens, I find myself making more tea. If someone comes over, they know I'll offer them tea within seconds. In fact, I'm sure it's extremely irritating. However, my teakettle is most definitely not irritating, and I do in fact love it.

The Container Store -- Folding Crate

First to recommend

Description

I got this in college which was ... well, let's just say a different president was in office, and I STILL use it every week. In fact, I bought a second one of them because they are so useful. Its supposedly a laundry crate, but I have used it for storage, for quick transport, and just about everything. They fold flat, and then pop out like magic when you need them. Tuck away for easy storage, out of sight, out of mind.

The Perfect Beaker

Description

I got so tired of hunting for measuring spoons, measuring cups, and conversion charts ... so I got rid of them all and got this Perfect Beaker. It works great for everything from cooking to mixing drinks, washes easily, comes with a plastic lid, and just looks plain cool. The ability to chuck out a drawer full of measuring utensils for this, at less than $10 really made my life a lot easier. Plus, I'm a guy ... we aren't that good in the kitchen to begin with, so who needs an additional handicap?

CRUMPLER The Considerable Embarrassment Laptop Case

First to recommend

Description

I fell in love with Crumpler bags during a seven-month working stint in Sydney, Australia. They are the best made bags I've ever come across, and they work for anything you can cram in 'em. I found myself needing a new laptop bag, and one that didn't scream "HEY! THERE'S A LAPTOP IN HERE! STEAL ME!" Also, I wanted to avoid one that said "Coporate Lackey", so I turned to Crumpler and lo and behold -- the Considerable Embarassment. It holds a day's work, my 15" laptop, the power supply, my digital camera, and everything else you need to lug around. Crumpler makes a bag for everyone, this one just happens to be me. Plus hey, nifty colors!
