flip & tumble - reusable bags

Description
One of the newest additions to my collection ... these are really attractive. Feather light, strong (holds up to 25 lbs.), and they scrunch up into an attached stuff sack ... the stuff sack doubles as a interior pouch when the bag is in use. Fun colors with contrasting color shoulder straps. A felt pad on the strap keeps the bag on your shoulder or gives you a comfy hand hold when carried in the hand.
What does "flip & tumble" mean? When the bag is open and empty, you put it away by sliding your hand into the stuff sack pouch, scrunching the sack into the pouch, "flip" the flap over the opening and "tumble" the bag into anything -- a backpack, purse, your pocket. It's a compact ball that fits into the palm of your hand, and it's easily squashable to fit into almost any nook (or cranny).
Very, very cute and very convenient ... just know that the bags tend to be wrinkled (because they're stuffed into the sack) so the photos are not quite accurate. I think they still look great!
Another plus -- when (actually, if) the bag ever reaches the end of its useful life, you can return it to the company and they will recycle it. More cool points.

Aesop Wild Lime Hair Polish at Barneys New York

Description
Skyekat's recent recommendation of Aesop's Resurrection Aromatique Hand Balm made me think of another one of my Aesop favorites -- the Wild Lime Hair Polish. It's their styling product for fine, limp hair. I am a performer and I tend to be very hard on my hair ... but on my off days, this is one of the products I like to use. It's gentle on my hair and provides just a little control and hold. It's not designed to build infrastructure -- just to keep your hair looking sleek ... and natural.
The absolute best part is the fragrance -- it's a beautiful wild lime blended with other botanicals to keep the citrus scent true. Often lime fragrances can smell too masculine, but this is just gorgeous. I would love an entire line in this fragrance!

I love Aesop, and this is one of my favorites from them. A little does go a very long way ... in fact, I used this one mostly at night because it was a bit too emollient for day. It's been a while since I purchased this, but it can be pricey in the US. If you're a hand cream fanatic like me, this is worth a look.

I own the funtote in the charcoal maple tree design, and it's an excellent bag. Strong and secure -- it has interior pockets to help keep things organized and a magnetic snap closure. My favorite feature is the vertical zip pocket on the side -- separate from the main compartment and hidden from view, it's fast and easy access for your keys or wallet. That's brilliant.

Seriously, this photo does not do this bag justice. It's a gray shoulder bag with a single pleat as a decorative detail on either side. Two interior slip pockets help keep it organized and a snap closure keeps contents safe but accessible.
Diana, the owner of Pravina Studio, is truly an artist. This makes a casually elegant statement, and I love her classic Euro aesthetic.
One of my very favorite Etsy shops ... nothing like handmade!

Large All-Around Tote by Reisenthel

Description
My husband schleps a lot of stuff -- he's a Renaissance kind of guy. Lots of interests that require a lot of stuff. He drums in a few different groups and he's in charge of recording the tracks. He has a TASCAM recording mixer -- designed to be mounted in a rack, but it's part of his portable setup -- that is too big for most laptop totes, and this large All-Around Tote accommodates it nicely along with the rest of the recording gear. It's a huge satchel, with an assortment of interior slip pockets. The frame is a nice feature -- it stays open for packing and unpacking, and with something this cavernous, that's important.
This tote is available in medium and large sizes from Garnet Hill. The large tote is $28, and it's a great value. I think it would be too big to carry on a plane, but it would be perfect for a weekend road trip.

Haiku by Sharon Eisenhauer Large Tote Leaves

Description
After 20+ years of carrying big, black leather totes with no obvious anything, I am slowly venturing into the world of colors and prints. If it's handmade or ecologically sensitive, that's a huge bonus.
This wonderful tote is one of my new favorites. I've looked at Sharon Eisenhauer's Haiku line for a long time, but frankly, I needed something inbetween the To Go Bag and the Ultimate Messenger Bag ... and this is it. The tote measures 13.5"x13.5" square, and is 4.5" deep -- big enough to accommodate what you need without being overwhelming. It has an exterior slip pocket on either side (easily accommodates letter size files or magazines -- LOVE that!) and inside, another slip pocket, a zip pocket, and a ring for keys. The entire interior compartment, lined in pink (Cordura, I think -- something very durable and easy to clean), zips shut. It has two sets of straps -- black straps that can be carried in the hand or over the shoulder, and a long, adjustable, detachable kiwi-colored strap for carrying messenger style.
Really easy to carry, and one of my most functional bags.

More of my moop obsession ... I've been looking for a simple, functional tote to carry my music (sheets and books) without damaging it -- clean lines and a stylish design would be big bonuses. Not as easy as you think to find, actually -- business and messenger cases are too big and bulky, and canvas totes/book bags (!) don't keep my music upright unless the totes are packed full.
This might just be perfect. I love its classic looks, and it has a full-sized magazine pocket that will solve my music dilemma. It also has pen slips, a small pocket and a D-ring for keys or anything else that's clippable.
Definitely worth a look.

I love the idea of this bag, and I had ordered it before I found this here ... please know that the measurements on the website and the measurements of the actual bag are very different. In this picture, the bag appears to be a medium-sized rectangular (or trapezoidal) hobo bag ... but it's actually a smaller square bag -- to the best of my recollection, approximately 10"x10", and probably about 2" deep. Very different. I did let customer service at vivaterra.com know about this when I returned the bag.
It was a beautiful bag, though ...

Description
Now this is one awesome bag.
Made from 100% certified organic cotton, it's really roomy yet easy to carry. It has three generous pockets -- one on the inside for your wallet, cell phone, etc., and two outside pockets. The straps are wide and comfortable, and long to carry over your shoulder or in your hand.
The bag itself is gorgeous. The designs are lovely (I ordered three different ones, and gave two away as gifts) -- if you're looking to make a more elegant statement, this is an excellent choice. It's strong enough to use as an everyday tote, but sophisticated enough to take practically anywhere.
According to the tag, this bag can be composted or planted in soil once its useful life is done. As durable as this seems to be, I can't imagine when that might happen ... but it's yet one more reason to appreciate this bag.

A nice addition to your reusable bag collection -- my husband uses these (most of my others are too girlie for him). Like many of the compact bags, these fold easily into an attached pouch (bonus!). Being able to see the contents is great. The hubbage uses them to schlep stuff to and from everywhere ... and he uses them to carry used workout clothes and towels into the laundry room. I just wash and dry them with the rest of the workout stuff, and they come out just like new -- ready to be stashed into their pouch for the next use!

One of my absolute favorite gift sites ever. Everything about Zingerman's is incredible. I send a lot of Zingerman's as gifts and everyone raves. Personally, my favorites include the chocolate sourdough bread (SOOO good!) and their balsamic vinegars. I always have a bottle of the 8-year aged in the house, and the 10-year aged is truly amazing. Their selection of olive oils is also quite tempting. Shopping for myself at Zingerman's is a serious exercise in restraint.
Their sourcream coffeecake -- doesn't sound terribly fancy, does it? -- is one of their best-selling gifts for a reason. Buttery, moist cake filled with a cinnamon brown sugar streusel and toasted walnuts. Lord help me. Unfortunately, all their baked goods are wonderful -- really, really wonderful, as my fall off the low-carb wagon will attest.
If you want to make a delicious statement that says you are a gift-giving guru with superlative taste, definitely try Zingerman's!

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous -- I bought one of the Bolsa clutches as a gift for my sister, and it is truly beautiful. Really well made with quality fabrics ... and she gets comments everywhere -- which completely makes her day.
I could get into a lot of trouble at this site ... and I generally only carry black leather totes, preferably without obvious designer logos (thank you, Furla!). These bags are so amazing I'm willing to carry colors ... and prints.

This is a great value -- I own this set. Strong and durable, these bags are smaller than the Envirosax or the Baggu, but they fold up into a tiny (attached!) pouch. The set is available in four different colors: black, moroccan blue, cranberry red and a burnt orange color. Availability of the colors is hit-and-miss, but black is almost always available.
