My mother has always had a thing for Russian nesting dolls. We had at least 3 to 5 of them at any given time during my childhood. So I have fond memories of those little wooden dolls, although I never really understood their purpose. Yeah, sure, popping them open the first time was a fun adventure, but after that, the excitement was gone. Well these nesting dolls serve a greater good. Reminding you about bits and bytes! These geeky nesting dolls come in bit, byte, kilobyte, megabyte, gigabyte and terabyte sizes. Perfect for helping my technology-challenged mom keep them straight!

It's out on DVD!!!! Finally! The documentary I've been waiting all year for. I don't know about you, but I've heard all the buzz about the movie Helvetica, and waited and waited for it to come to my area, only for the showing to see out before I could take a breath. Now, just in time for the holidays, it's out on DVD. Go forth and buy a copy for all your designer friends. Assuming they haven't bought it for themselves already.

There's something perverse about wearing an anatomical drawing of an arm around your wrist. And yet, when it's beautifully frames in an ornate border and on something that looks vaguely like scrimshaw, well, it's hard to resist as well. Power lines are all around us. We don't even notice them most of the time, but they have some really interesting geometries. This is one of those pieces that looks simple at first glance, but is interesting and intricate upon further inspection. There's a bazillion music blogs out there, and even for the most discerning muso, it can take far too long to scan each one for the choice tracks. So when you just don't have time to read all the accompanying articles but cut right to the chase, Peel is there. Peel lets you stream the MP3s off of your favorite blogs, and if you like the track, download it. It integrates with iTunes, and you can even use your Apple remote with it. I love shoes, and often they're more style over substance (or comfort!), but you need shoes that go great with your comfy jeans and concert tees for your days off. You know, when you're kicking around and laying back. But you still want something that has a bit of edge to it, not just boring, generic kicks. These lil guys do just the trick. A bit of distressing and there you go. Comfy shoes with a bit of character.

Good Water Cup

Description

It's a simple idea, but I love the execution. Take the bottom of a plastic soda bottle, and use it as the mold for a cup. The resulting cup seems familiar and still a bit alien. The shape also is a bit reminiscent of a tooth, and the red cross does lend a bit of a medical feel to it, so I concur with the folks at A+R that it's a great bathroom cup.

Hunting Trap Cuff

I love things that are stylish, but a little edgy and dangerous. This cuff bracelet that is shaped like a bear trap (and actually hinges open) totally fits the bill. Just a glancing look and it's nothing special, but that double-take reveals the darker edge, either clamped shut, or just grinning open.

This t-shirt reminds me of a strange B&W flyer you might see taped to the side of a telephone pole in a weird version of the future. It's a bit comic book, a bit high art, but all around funky. The text says:
"From around the age of six, I had the habit of sketching from life. Description

This shirt is sweet and incredibly dark at the same time. A kitty does what it is bred to do, kill a mouse, yet feels a bit of angst about it, and sheds a blood-red tear. Adorably twisted.
