Ted Leo and the Pharmacists - Hearts Of Oak

Description
On the website, they have a quote up from Ted Leo: "I consider myself a perpetual English major, but I also get into bar fights." Which reminded me that Paul Simonon once said that the Clash was the soundtrack to a punch-up. Ted Leo has the punk ideals, and plenty of the politics, but goes a bit pop-ier in the delivery. Although, "Ballad of the Sin Eater" could be good punk in its prime.

Description
I think this is probably the catchiest Ted Leo & The Pharmacists album, if that's possible. These guys write some horribly catchy pop music, but this is definitely some of the best. "Me & Mia" starts off the batch and the energy just doesn't let up for the rest of the 11 song set. Just about every song on this album is incredibly hooky and infectious.

Description
A nice 3 song EP from Ted Leo and co, with one original, "Loyal to My Sorrowful Country", and two covers, "Six Months in a Leaky Boat" by Split Enz (both of which are available on the EP Tell Balgeary, Balgury is Dead) and "Suspect Device" by Stiff Little Fingers. It's a very politically minded EP, all the songs definitely have an agenda to them, but this has never been a band to shy away from having a position to stand behind.

Description
Ever had a band you liked alright, but then you see them live and feel the sudden need to get every album they ever made because they are ten kinds of awesome? That's my current feeling about Ted Leo and the Pharmacists. So if you like this album, and you should, because it's got some super-great songs on it, like "Under the Hedge", and "Timorous Me" (two of my all-time fav of their songs), you need to go see them live so you can fully appreciate how amazing they really are. But if that's not an option, than sit down and revel in this album, and Shake the Sheets, and be happy that you have such great taste in music.

There are some albums that show up everywhere, and yet, for some reason, you don't get around to hearing what all the fuss is about for a while. That's what happened to me and Rilo Kiley for some reason. This album's been out for ages, but I just grabbed it two days ago. I really wished I hadn't waited though. It was popier than I expected, but in a good way, and Jenny Lewis's voice is amazing. Sometimes she has an almost country-tinged delivery. A very bright album, full of catchy little songs.

Great pop song. It's catchy and infectious, just like it ought to be, with a good hook. It's got a good sing-along chorus and the beat is stirring. Wonderful summer pop song.

Great debut from someone who promises to be an interesting singer/songwriter in her time. Her tunes are poppy and incredibly catchy. Key songs: "Another White Dash" and "Life is Short". Hailed by another great female voice, Tori Amos, whose tour she opened for. It's a tight, well crafted pop album, with hopefully more to come

My favorite of Eno's solo albums, especially the incredibly catchy "I'll Come Running". He just makes these beautiful, mellow, atmospheric pop songs that will hook you and not let go. He's known best for his production, but his pop songs are sorely under appreciated.

Really great, catchy pop song. Still a slightly off kilter, strange tune with interesting melody and fun pop sensibility. This is definitely the biggest hit that they had, and the catchiest tune that they wrote.

A really good, catchy album from a band that never did get its due. They're mostly an acoustic affair, tending to the indie pop side of things, and the lyrics are witty. Key tracks "Fear of Falling", and "Gwendolin".

The darkest, most upbeat song that you'll ever hear. With a list of friends who have passed on, you'd think this song would be depressing, but it's so cheery and fun.

Such gorgeous, well-crafted pop songs. A great album, a collaboration between Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie, and Jimmy Tamborello. They passed the tracks back and forth through the mail. An intersting approach, but the results are such stunning, pretty electro-pop songs, that it doesn't matter how it was conceived to me. An interesting conceit, but a great album nonetheless.

There are certain songs that bring you right back to a particular time or place. This is one of those songs for me. There's a mellow sadness to the song, but it's not maudlin. A great song that stands the test of time well.

The song that kicked off MTV. This is a great pop song, with a catchy hook. It's the prototypical one hit wonder that became the staple of the 80s and the video music era. Great song to lead off with.

Better Than Ezra went from indie modern rock to bright, pop songs. And, while it might sound like an odd change, it's one that they manage very well. These songs are upbeat and catchy, with some interesting guest artists as well. It's a really great summer album. Better Than Exra did an admirable job trading their dourness for sunshine.

This is such a guilty pleasure album for me. I just remember driving around in college with one song or another from this album blaring and a bunch of my good friends and I scream-singing along. It's just fun, sorta bubble-gummy pop-punk. And you can't help but sing along.

I really enjoy this album. Yes, there are songs that sound a bit like they're aping other bands, like the Beatles for instance, but there's something just so catchy about the tunes that they can get away with it. It's a terrific summer-y album that's still a boat load of fun.

I didn't know much about Bob Mould when I first heard this album. I didn't know of his history with Husker Du, which was probably good, as this album certainly looses a lot of the darkness that I associate with them now. This album is downright catchy at times, full of hooks and great melodies. Mould does have a knack for lyrics, and the sometimes darkness of those sits almost opositionally to the music at times. This is really a great, overlooked 90s album from someone with a truly unique voice.

When I first saw Scissors for Lefty perform, they had this album available, recorded in their apartment, full of sweet indie pop songs, sounding a lot like they came from the other side of the Atlantic, not the Pacific coast of the US. Catchy and somewhat campy, Scissors for Lefty have a sound that's set to go somewhere.

Pretty indie-pop from San Francisco. I saw Scissors for Lefty open up for Dirty Pretty Things a couple years ago and was taken by their sweet songs and campy demeanor. Their first proper album released stateside sees them continue to produce sweet, sophisticated, slightly british-tinged pop music. Here's hoping they make lots more.

This is crazy catchy, hyper upbeat, melodious electro-pop music. From Sweden and with a cast of guests that's kickass, from Mad Cobra, to Iggy Pop, via Neneh Cherry. Seriously infectious, you'll find yourself rockin' out to it in your car on a warm summer's day. Definitely a nice day mix, and the songs cover such a range that it doesn't get old anytime fast. (P.S. They actually perform live in those bear heads. How crazy is that?!)

Funky electro-beats layered behind a great voice, this album is great and fits a number of moods. "They" is pretty and has an almost choral feel to it, while "Come on Closer" is a great dance-track. "24" is base on the TV show, leading to a very funny moment backstage when she went all fan girl on Keifer Sutherland. Overall, this album as tons of catchy moments, and is really upbeat. Interesting, instrumentation and samples too.

"1-2-3-4" became a massive hit off of this album for lady Feist, thanks in no small part to an iPod commercial. No one could deserve it more. She's been making it work in the music business for years, between working with Peaches and then Broken Social Scene. On her latest album, she keeps making catchy, sweet pop songs. "My Moon My Man" is my other favorite track off this album.
