About Me
I am an entrepreneur committed to positive social change through both for- and non-profit organizations. I am the founder and CEO of LivingHomes, LLC , a developer of modern, prefabricated homes designed by world-class architects that feature healthy/green materials and energy systems, all at a great price value. A fan of architecture and an avid Lego enthusiast from a very young age, I tried my hand at design in college only to find that my true talents lay elsewhere, in the business of innovation. Realizing that real estate developers are equally, if not more, responsible for the quality of the built world, I have taken my passion for building with blocks to an entirely new level. From Lego to prefab, LivingHomes represents the fulfillment of a life-long ambition to create a company that aspires to “wed profit and purpose” by developing homes that make great design, functionality and sustainable design practical and affordable.
An entrepreneur at heart, LivingHomes is the latest in a succession of highly successful businesses that I have managed. I founded and served as CEO for PeopleLink , a leading provider of enterprise e-community solutions to clients which included Oracle, GE, MTV, Paramount, Reuters and CBS. Under my leadership, PeopleLink raised over $35 million from firms including AT&T, GE, Harbourvest and Goldman Sachs. I am also a Partner and part of the founding team of idealab!, a business incubation firm that raised over $1 billion in equity and founded or invested in a number of successful companies including GoTo/Overture (OVER), NetZero/United Online (UNTD), CitySearch (TMCS), Tickets.com (TKTS), eToys and CarsDirect. Prior to idealab!, I worked for Walt Disney Imagineering as co-director of the Virtual Reality Studio. Before Disney, I was the Vice President of the Entertainment Group at SimGraphics Engineering.
I began my technology career in college, when I co-founded Clearview Software, the developer of Claris SmartForm Designer and SmartForm Assistant. Clearview was sold to Apple Computer where I later served as a marketing specialist. I hold a bachelor’s degree with honors in Organizational Behavior from Brown University, and received a scholarship for the Career Discovery Program in Urban Planning at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. I also received a State Farm Exceptional Student Fellowship Award for graduate study and a one year Fellowship in Public Affairs with the Coro Foundation.
True to Einstein’s belief that “it is every man’s [and woman’s] obligation to put back into the world at least the equivalent of what he takes out of it,” I focus as much energy on my non-profit endeavors as I do on my for-profit businesses. In my ‘spare’ time, I have worked with the William Jefferson Clinton Foundation on a variety of projects for several years. Most recently I helped organize an initiative with the American Heart Association to address childhood health and nutrition. Before that, I worked full-time with the Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative (CHAI) and managed the development of a $330 million program in Mozambique which will provide care and treatment to over 350,000 HIV+ individuals over the next five years.
I also co-founded and serve on the board of the Sustainable Business Council, Kaia Parker Dance Fund, and the Hope Street Group. I am also a member of the Board of Directors for LA Works and the Brown University Entrepreneur Forum.
