beautyblender Makeup Blender Sponge

First to recommend

Description

TIP: Go light on the foundation and concealer...by using a makeup sponge to apply foundation instead of fingers.

A dampened sponge works much better to apply a sheer layer of foundation and blend it, allowing your natural complexion to show through. Using fingers will make the coverage too heavy. The beautyblender has a unique shape to make application easier and more even.

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer

13 people recommended this item

Description

TIP: Go light on the foundation and concealer!

Foundation should let your natural complexion show. You can do this by using a tinted moisturizer, which gives you the moisture you need to plump and prep your skin, and a sheer coverage that won't heavily settle into fine lines and wrinkles.

philosophy the present clear makeup

Description

TIP: Go light on the foundation and concealer.

In order to use less foundation, it's a good idea to use a primer that will help foundation go on more smoothly. Philosophy's The Present is a clear primer that fills in creases and fine lines so that you only need a thin, sheer layer of foundation.

Olay Total Effects Anti-Aging Anti-Blemish Daily Moisturizer

Description

TIP: Go light on the foundation and concealer!

Heavy foundation can settle in creases and wrinkles, making them appear even deeper.

In order to use less foundation, prep skin with a good moisturizer, which obviously helps the skin "plump," but also helps makeup slide on smoothly and evenly. There's no need to spend hundreds of dollars on a department store brand. Oil of Olay's Olay Total Effects Daily Moisturizer is slightly pricier than other drugstore brands at $20, but that's a lot less expensive than a La Mer or La Prairie. Olay Total Effects is made for anti-aging as well.

Benefit Cosmetics Sheer Cream Blusher

First to recommend

Description

TIP: Balance one dramatic color with neutrals.

Dark red lipstick, rosy blush and bright jewel-toned eyes are pretty each on their own, but all together on one face looks old. Though the balance works for all combinations, e.g. subtle eyes with bright rosy cheeks or dramatic eyes with neutral cheeks, we prefer the latter. Dramatic eyes means you need a sheer blush like Benefit's Sheer Cream Blusher, which also has the added benefit (pun intended) of being creamy, which is less drying on older skin than a powder blush.

Duwop Lip Venom

16 people recommended this item

Description

TIP: Make your lips look fuller with a high shine lip gloss.

Since lips thin out as we age, they will look younger if they're fuller. DuWop Lip Venom is a shiny gloss that has the added benefit of chemically plumping lips, too.

DuWop Reverse Lip Liner

First to recommend

Description

Tip: Use a lipliner to keep color from straying into the fine lines (we won't call them "wrinkles") around your mouth.

Clear wax lipliner is ideal so as not to make you LOOK like you're wearing lipliner.

Urban Decay Matte Eyeshadow Intense Shadow, Naked

Description

TIP: Stay away from shimmery eyeshadows!

The shimmer will settle into creases and wrinkles, highlighting them instead of masking them. Instead, stick with matte eyeshadows in universally flattering neutral colors like peach or Champagne to sweep over the entire lid.

Stila Long Wearing Lip Color: Lipstick

3 people recommended this item

Description

One application of Stila Long Wearing Lip Color lasts about four hours, and that's through a cup of hot coffee, a bagel and a bad habit of rubbing lips together. The stylish tube also fits easily in to a purse.
