Description

Every hospital and doctor's office waiting room should have one of these cool new I.V. Pots ($349). These self-watering planters use real refillable I.V. bags and flow regulators to control the water drip to the potted patient, er, plant. Until this country offers univeral plant care, this pot should help to keep your plants alive when you forget to water them. Very unique. (via Michael Kiely)

Black Tissues from Japan

Updated Jun 23, 2008

Description

I never knew I needed facial tissues to be in any color other than white, until I saw these cool new Black Tissues from Japan ($149). Apparently, traditional white household items like paper towels, cotton swabs, toilet paper, toothpaste and more are now going dark in Japan. They feel that black has a "clean" feeling and shows casual luxury and sophistication. Fascinating as far as luxury tissues go, but unfortunately you'll need to purchase 20 boxes of tissues at a time. (via Michael Kiely)

Sea-Monkeys - Executive Set

Updated Jun 23, 2008

2 people recommended this item

Description

As kids, we all saw that advertisement for the Amazing Live Sea-Monkeys in the back of comic books that showed a family of little magical underwater creatures and placed an order immediately. Dreams of ruling over a kingdom of these instant pet mer-people were soon dashed when we realized they were neither people, nor monkeys, but tiny marine micro-crustaceans.

Now that we are adults and a bit less naive, we can finally appreciate the science behind this unique mail-order underwater world and showcase it once again in our offices or cubicles with the cool new Amazing Live Sea-Monkeys - Executive Set ($8). Brine shrimp never looked so good as in this newly decorated black and gold accented tank equipped with a ventilated lid and a mound of gold on the bottom. Like always, this set includes everything you need to hatch, feed and grow them and they are guaranteed to hatch & grow for up to two years.

Who knows, maybe this time will be different. Maybe this time they'll finally evolve! Maybe this time they'll become a true human-worshiping marine species. Maybe this time, they'll try to speak to you... Well, back to work. (via Michael Kiely)

Lifesize Salacious B. Crumb from Return of the Jedi

Updated Jun 17, 2008

1st to recommend

Description

If there are any Star Wars fans left out there, you surely remember that evil cackling little Kowakian monkey-lizard named Salacious B. Crumb from Return of the Jedi. He was Jabba the Hutt's court jester, sat on a pillow near the base of Jabba's throne and sadistically laughed at and annoyed everyone to Jabba's amusement. Unfortunately he died when Jabba's sail barge exploded due to unexpected Jedi interference. When I was a kid, he was one of my favorite characters and now I can have a Lifesize Salacious B. Crumb ($350) of my very own to pester guests in my own palace. Now I wish I had a lifesize Rancor monster for the garden... (via Michael Kiely)

Description

The next time you have guests over and open a bottle of wine, keep it properly chilled in this cool new Swedish Granite Wine Cooler ($98). It is made from natural stone and each piece is unique in shape and structure. There are no electronics involved, simply place the rock overnight in your freezer and it will chill a bottle of wine for hours. I like it simply because it's not made of plastic for once. Han Solo Frozen in Carbonite Ice Cube Tray with R2-D2 Ice Bucket

Updated May 12, 2008

Description

have always held out hope that the coolest ice cubes in the galaxy, shaped like Han Solo Frozen in Carbonite from Star Wars, would one day find their way into my freezer. The Force must be strong with me, because coming soon is the incredibly cool new Han Solo Frozen in Carbonite Ice Cube Tray with R2-D2 Ice Bucket ($33)!

I don't have all the details yet, since this is still a pre-order item, but it appears that you can make up to 4 frozen Han Solo "ice cubes" in the tray at a time. After they have survived the freezing chamber and appear to be in perfect hibernation, they can then be loaded into the equally cool R2-D2 ice bucket. Simply remove Artoo's dome head and fill him up with frozen Han Solos or just regular old boring ice cubes if that's all you have. No home cantina would be complete without this set. R2-D2 - Ultimate Digital Audio and Video Projector

Description

R2-D2, the beloved astromech droid from a galaxy far, far away is now available to entertain you right in your very own home with the cool new R2-D2 - Digital Audio and Video Projector ($2995).

Just like in the first Star Wars movie, this Artoo unit can project a 260 inch, 1024x768 resolution DVD movie or picture (no holograms) onto your wall or ceiling using a 1800 lumen Texas Instruments projector embedded in his dome. In addition to playing back the entire message, R2-D2 also features a complete array of multimedia extras like an iPod/MP3 docking station, CD/DVD player, built-in 20 watt stereo speaker system, memory card reader, USB slots, FM wireless audio out and additional audio/video inputs for connecting video game systems and more. Best of all, he can be maneuvered around the room with the included Millenium Falcon remote control to roll forward, reverse, recline, turn 360 degrees or turn his head.

This is a must have for any Star Wars collection, home theater or office conference room. The only thing this R2-D2 doesn't do is serve drinks, but he doesn't come with a bad motivator either, so that's good. I hope in the next version they add Blu-Ray and GPS, just in case I have to track him down. (via The Green Head)

Lifesize C-3PO and R2-D2 Star Wars Droid Replicas

Updated Mar 31, 2008

1st to recommend

Description

These are the droids you're looking for...

No self-respecting home theater, office or hardcore Star Wars fan's collection is complete without lifesize replicas of those two lovable droids from a galaxy far, far away, C-3PO ($5950) and R2-D2 ($5450).

Sideshow Collectibles and Fred Barton Productions have teamed up to bring private collectors the most authentic 1:1 scale lifesize replicas of C-3PO and R2-D2 ever made. These droids appear to have come straight out of hyperspace right into your living room. Both figures are made out of fiberglass, feature realistic paint styles and weathered effects from the original trilogy, have moveable parts for articulation and include light and sound effects like Artoo's beeps and bloops and Threepio's famous quotes. They also both include magnetic removeable restraining bolts, just in case they attempt to flee and seek out Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Now that I'm older, those little plastic Star Wars action figures I collected as a kid seem utterly insignificant next to these. The only thing these lifesize droids are missing are the actors Kenny Baker and Anthony Daniels inside them, but that's just nitpicking.

May the Force be with you! (via The Green Head)

Description

The Wireless Light Switch ($149) by designer Tobias Wong lets you control any electrical device that you plug in up to 100 feet away. Simply attach the remote control component to the device and flip the switch On or Off. It's basically just a remote control for an outlet, but the classic light switch design that is available in chrome or in limited edition 14k gold is very cool. (via The Green Head)

Columnar Apple Trees - Grow Vertically Without Branching Out

Updated Mar 27, 2008

Description

Would you like to to have your very own apple trees with delicious full-sized fresh fruit only a reach away, but are limited by space? You can with the cool Columnar Apple Trees ($50). This unique variety of apple tree grows vertically up to 10' tall without branching out. They are naturally horizontally challenged and perfect for container planting in small spaces with full sun on your deck, patio, balcony or just in the corner of your garden. You get two varieties to ensure pollination, the Northpole variety that tastes like a McIntosh and Golden Sentinal which resembles Golden Delicious apples. They are both 1 year old plants that are pre-planted in 1-gallon pots. It's like having a natural totem pole of fruit. (via The Green Head)
