Don't call him Tom or Tommy. He's Thomas O'Brien, thank you, and last year his name was trademarked. That's how important this founder of Aero Studios Ltd. has become.
O'Brien's signature style is modernism with a traditional twist, and it's easy to relate it to his favorite 1940s to 1950s and 1830s to 1840s design periods. He doesn't call his style "American," but listening to him wax about his inspirations, there's no doubt he would consider this a compliment.

"I grew up in upstate New York, near Hamilton, an area with many Greek revival buildings," he notes. "Even back when the colonies copied European styles, the American interpretations were unique. I like to incorporate a bit of tradition in my designs. It makes modernism more approachable."

"Ease" and "comfort" are the words most commonly used to describe his style, whether he's designing interiors for such style makers as Ralph Lauren and Georgio Armani or products for Hickory and other home furnishings companies as well as his own Aero store. His newest venture is a line for Target. He says it helps people focus on how to collect.
