About timothywhealon:
Timothy Whealon's early experience buying antiques at auction with his mother paid off; today both an interior designer and an antiques consultant, Whealon has an unerring eye for art and antiques and an extensive knowledge of periods and styles. His roots are classically European-he spent spent studying art history at Edinburgh and completed an art appraisal course at Sotheby's in London-yet Whealon's design sensibility reflects a modern and distinctly American sensibility. "I like to look back to classical things, but I want a fresh take, and I'm always willing to explore new ideas," Whealon says. One such idea is to use antique textiles, which he searches out from dealers at home in New York City or abroad in the flea markets of Paris or Istanbul, to cover something new-a chair or a cushion, perhaps, thereby creating in one piece an interesting balance of place and time. Indeed, travel is something that Whealon says fuels his creativity, and he takes full advantage of today's small world, by regularly patronizing the extensive network of vendors he has built up on both sides of the Atlantic.
