Harman/Kardon TC30 Activity Based Remote Control

Description

This remote rocks all others because it's based on the Harmony line of remotes but with better aesthetics than most of the Harmony line (except the Harmony 720). Simply connect it to your computer through a USB port and answer a few questions about which home theater components you have and the software will step you through the rest. The remote works by setting up activities (i.e Watch DVD or Play Video Game) which activate with one button press to turn on the appropriate components, and select the right input for both video and audio so you don't have to. It's great if you have someone in your family that doesn't understand navigating through several remotes just to play a DVD on your home theater. But the software is robust enough to satisfy someone with more advanced knowledge as well. Just using it for 3 weeks, I'd never go back.

Description

Going on one month with this watch and I love it. It's a head turner, especially in a buttoned up city like DC. It never fails to get a compliment in a bar or even on the metro. And the finish seems to hold up well. My only complaint is it takes some getting used to in reading the time. Form over function? Probably. But it's so cool!

Oh I know your reading this with that smirking skepticism spreading across your face! Well here's why. FLEXIBILITY. Each side of the table has its own pull out leaf to create a nice combination of table surfaces on different levels. Combine two and put it on one level to make a 55" long rectangular table. Made of iroko wood and with four reversible leaves (one side white, one side beige) gives you great flexibility no matter how your space changes. And the design works with any modern or contemporary decor.

"So you can make it square or rectangular as your need changes?"

"Yes, Mom."

"Ok good. Since you can afford the table, we'll be cutting off your allowance."

What a great name for a great service. Ever wanted to create a huge picture mural on your wall using your own graphics? Upload your picture at this site, crop it, select a size and the "rasterbated" image will be sent back to you in easily printable pdf files. Just print out all the pages and assemble it into a huge mural up to 20 meters in size. Check out some great examples that people have created using the site. Great for a cool accent wall!

Description

Without a doubt the sharpest looking laptop sleeve I've ever seen. It folds open like a flower around your laptop and then folds back up into an envelope-like sleeve. Made out of heavy gauge felt. Laptop sleeves are great if you don't want to buy a seperate laptop bag and just use an existing bag you already own.

Description

I know what you're thinking. "What the heck is this?" Well it's a rabbit. And it's connected to your wi-fi network. Its ears move, it talks and flashes cute lights. Ok so here's what it can really do:

- it can wake you up in the morning and play whatever audio file you wish
- it can let you know when you've got new email or read it out to you
- it tells you the weather or can show you visually with it's lights (all three yellow lights means sunny etc)
- it can read out the latest news headlines for you
- show you visually or tell you the state of the stock market
- other things like Nabcasts, RSS feeds etc...

Basically it's a talking assistant that can provide you with information without you having to check the computer.

I fell in love with the Aeron chair when they got me one at the office. It was so good I bought one for home. I've had it for 7 years now and there have been no creaks, squeaks or problems whatsoever. Oh and it's darn comfortable. Every office or home needs one.

Bakery Group Lamp

Description

Mood lighting is essential in any space especially a bachelor pad. I use lamps from The Bakery Group. I purchased mine from a store in DC called Apartment Zero. They're not plastic but a thin polyester material wrapped around a 3 dimensional wire structure. They may look flat in the picture but they actually have a depth and volume that can't be seen when lit. Absolutely incredible looking in person. I believe Ikea has a very cheap looking version of this in their 2004 catalog.

Description

When you need to get your game on, this is currently the most advanced system out there. It started slow off the block with only a few good titles. Recently, the titles have started ramping up again for the fall. This is an excellent choice if you have an HDTV and surround sound. Must have titles for this system include Call of Duty 2, Oblivion, Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter and Dead Rising. Upcoming titles like Gears of War, Halo 3, Lost Planet and Mass Effect will keep the momentum going when the console wars go into full swing this winter.

Description

In the metropolitan areas, most guys carry messenger bags during their commute. This is the one I use daily. It's navy blue and understated on the outside and wild orange on the inside. The interior color actually helps me find things quicker since it's so bright that everything in the bag stands out in contrast. Also has some handy pockets for an iPod with a hole for the headphone wire to snake through. Very durable and sharp but understated.

I've had these headphones for almost 3 years. They are phenomenal for the price. I put these on for some late nite 'pod listening. These are really meant for "stay at home" music listening. The cord is generously long (almost too long for portable use) and the build quality of these phones are solid. Even better, listen to CD's, vinyl or non-compressed digital music and you'll hear the true quality of these babies. The bass is hard hitting and the highs are crystal clear. The old school design is great too. Best headphones you can buy for the price.

Logitech NuLOOQ Professional Series

Description

I was skeptical at first but this changed the way I work. I'm a designer and I spend alot of time in Photoshop. The NuLOOQ increased my workflow speed and I wonder how I ever worked without it. This is not a replacement for another input device. It works in conjunction with your mouse and tablet to help you zoom, pan and access any menu item or tool in Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator. It's highly customizable and can be programmed to a limited extent to work with other apps as well. Hopefully, Logitech will release new profiles for other apps that have the full support like the Adobe apps have.

Description

This is probably the most useful thing I've bought in the last month. I don't know how to cook (does toasting a bagel count?). So for a single guy like me, trying to eat healthy is a challenge. I buy lots of bagged salad and before this handy device, I'd rinse out the salad in a pasta strainer (Hey at least I rinse it now!) The beauty of this thing is it actually works. It does what it's suppose to and is easy to clean up afterwards. Low maintenance is good for the single guy!

Description

Your pad needs a cool, sleek sofa for entertaining friends. This one is 93" long and can seat 3 comfortably and 4 if they're all dieting. Mine is a medium gray so it can go with any color when I need to change things up. It's comfortable and has held up well (I was initially worried it would lose it's sleek shape and start sagging). No sagging here.

Every YUB (Young Urban Bachelor) needs a "ginormous" TV. Ok maybe need is too strong a word. In any case, here's mine. Perfect for DVD watching, HD programming and Xbox 360 frag fests. Beautiful picture, nice size screen and lower cost than a plasma or lcd at the comparable screen size. I'm lovin mine...that is until it's time to upgrade :-)

Porsche Boxster

Description

It's not the fastest Porsche. Or the most expensive. But boy is it fun to drive!
I've had this car for several years and other than the occasional oil change (every 15k miles), it has never given me any trouble. The car seems solidly built and because of it's centrally located engine, offers a perfect rear to front balance for superb handling. It literally seems to hug the road like no other car. This is my therapy on four wheels. When I'm stressed, I put the top down and go for a drive and all is well with the world.

The design is already a classic. Even after almost a decade since it's debut, the car still turns heads and has had only small cosmetic changes with its original styling remaining intact. That's the hallmark of a classic design; it doesn't need a drastic styling change for years or even decades.

A beautiful Porsche mere mortals can afford. Best money I ever spent...

This is my fourth iPod and they get better every year. It's already been called a classic design icon. The added bonus in this version is the ability to play video even if it is in a small window. Actually comes in handy on my commute and is used everyday.

Every laptop needs a good bag. I use this model called Loft for my Macbook. It fits perfectly with good protection on both sides and many pockets for other items. Ever notice that most cordless phones are butt ugly and cheap looking? Not this one. It's brushed aluminum with black accents. It utilizes 5.8Ghz frequency for clear calls and has a great speakerphone on the handset.

It's portable, runs Linux, wifi enabled, streams internet music stations and can play videos and mp3s off a memory card. Best of all, you can surf the net using it's 800 x 400 pixel screen big enough to see most websites at their full width. I use this in places when a full laptop isn't needed.
