Jabra BT620s Bluetooth Stereo Headset

3 people recommended this item

Description

Bluetooth headphones are now well established and fairly inexpensive, so even non-early adopters can ditch the wires that tether them to their computer or other sound source.

I don't own a pair of wireless headphones yet, but I'm planning on getting some once I've got a home theater PC. Late night gaming/coding/browsing from the comfort of the couch sounds like fun.

The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress by Robert A. Heinlein

First to recommend

Description

Robert Heinlein is probably best known for "Stranger in a Strange Land" (where he coined the term "grok"), or "Starship Troopers" which was adapted to a movie a few years back, but I think this is his best novel. It mixes sci-fi and political themes to great effect, and is a fairly short, fast paced read.

Sony VAIO Living Room PC with Blu Ray Drive (white)

First to recommend

Description

I just purchased a big screen TV for the first time (Samsung 61" DLP, review coming soon) and I'm doing research on computers to connect to it. Initially, I was leaning towards the mac mini (I like its design, small size and the Front Row software we've enjoyed on our iMac), but I'd really like something with a Blu-Ray drive and larger capacities for hard drives and RAM.

This new "Living Room" computer from Sony seems to have all the specs I'd like, and a nice design as well. It's larger than the mini, but would look nice on the TV stand, comes in white or black (tough choice), and Sony claims the design is really quiet - you don't want a contantly humming computer fan disturbing your movie watching.

Specs from Amazon:

- Intel Core 2 Duo T8100 Processor
- 2-4 GB RAM
- 500 GB Hard Drive
- Blu Ray Drive
- Wi-Fi
- ATSC/NTSC tuners for recording TV
- Vista Premum w/media center capabilities
- HDMI output

Kudos to Sony for making such an advanced machine at an almost reasonable price. I'm hoping Apple will answer with a beefed up mini, but they had better do that soon if they'd like my business.

Christian Ulbricht Wooden Nutcracker-Witch from Bellacor

First to recommend

Description

In Denmark, midsummer's eve is celebrated with the burning of a witch. You can (and probably should) make your own witch out of straw and cloth, but if you're super-busy, you can order a nice wooden witch like this one to burn instead. (via Burn the witch!)

15' x 48" Intex Easy Set Pool Package

First to recommend

2 people recommended this item

Description

If you're somewhere in between "back of the pickup and a tarp" and "millionaire with an infinity pool", you may want to check out this portable pool from Intex. Larger than those tiny splash pools but still fairly cheap, this might be a fun thing to put in your back yard this summer.

Intex also offers smaller (8 & 10 foot diameter) versions on Amazon, but you might as well get the large one.

Kirtas APT 1212 Book Scanning Robot

First to recommend

Description

These robots turn the pages of books and scan each page, which is a lot more fun than scanning a book by hand or removing its binding. These machines originally cost around $120K, but now that Microsoft has abandoned its book digitizing business, you may soon be able to find some "cheap" used models on ebay.
