As hard as it is to believe that it has been nearly ten years since the passing of puppeteer (and Muppet creator) Jim Henson, it is even harder to grasp that this PBS show has now been going strong for 40 years. While the DVD set will be a delightful romp down memory lane for some, for others (who...more cannot remember a time before Elmo) it will be a Muppet-filled font of new material. Only a Grouch or a Grinch would shun such a wealth of sunny days.
"A special edition of "The National Parks," including a passport to the parks, a 6-disc DVD set and the series soundtrack on CD. A particularly swell gift for families, this multimedia feast is an invitation to the wild for armchair warriors and naturalists-to-be."
"don't wait until you reach your destination to buy a map! Plan ahead with one of these great maps from PBS travel guru Rick Steves'. The bonus with these maps is that they show the sites that correspond with his great travel guide books."
"a wonderful primer for your next trip - chances are your destination is at least touched on in one or more episodes of Rick Steves' Public Television series. His "Europe through the Back Door" series focuses on leaving the tourist traps behind and getting a feel for the culture and local experience. I highly recommend all of his travel books, too!"
"Mr. Rogers was one of my favorite shows when I was young. I have the Lady Elaine Fairchilde puppet which seems to be out of stock now. I would love to have this King Friday puppet too."
"You are probably already intimately acquainted with the work of Jerome Robbins . . . although you may not immediately recognize the name. The choreographic engineer of "West Side Story" (both stage and film versions) and "Gypsy," Robbins also collaborated with many stars of the ballet, including Mikhail Baryshnikov, Suzanne Farrell, Peter Martins and Jacques d'Amboise. This documentary, narrated..."
"The Art 21 documentaries from PBS are outstanding. There's no other series of documentaries that take a look at the art practice of contemporary artists today. Season 4 includes artists:
Pierre Huyghe, Judy Pfaff, Lari Pittman, Laurie Simmons, Jenny Holzer, Alfredo Jaar, An-My Lê, Nancy Spero, Robert Adams, Mark Dion, Iñigo Manglano-Ovalle, Ursula von Rydingsvard, Allora & Calzadilla, Mark Bradf..."
"What a weird weird weird show. If I was a kid I would refuse to watch this weird weird program. But thanks to the 90's we can all say "tinky winky" and have a good laugh."
"I recommended the 1956 movie adaptation of Nevil Shute's novel; now I recommend the 1981 TV series that was broadcast on PBS's Masterpiece Theatre. It features the hunky Bryan Brown as John Harman and Helen Morse."
"This is one of my favorite kid shows on PBS. There's a lot of wink-wink humor, and it's not that the wink-wink humor is over the kids' heads... my kids are almost more onto what's going on than I am. One of the villains? He attacks with meat, and tries to pass off "bologna" checks. And WordGirl's parents are utterly ridiculous. Her father just walked in and said "for the love of all things Elvis!"..."
