This dwarf Juniper from Japan is the most popular evergreen in the U.S. When we think of a traditional bonsai and what it should look like, we think of a "Juniper Procumbens Nana."

This impressive trouble-free evergreen is an excellent tree for the beginner. I will tell you however, you need some patience to spot and pluck individual tiny brown needles from this specimen. I have started with a Juniper that is effectively a "baby" and right now looks nothing like this. The notion of completely trouble-free and bonsai is a complete fallacy. You have to do some serious research and acquire the right tools. (via bonsaiboy.com)
