Based on the graphic novel by Steve Niles and Ben Templesmith, this adaptation is a grueling, blood-fueled illustration of what it's like to try and stay alive when you are trapped like a rat.

I'm always interested in seeing a different take on the vampire genre. While this movie didn't turn the genre on it's head it bares (and uses) plenty of razor-sharp teeth to chew it up and move at a relentless, breakneck pace.

Director David Slade (Hard Candy) manages to keep his vision strong, though owing a debt of gratitude to the speedy undead in movies like Danny Boyle's "28 Days Later" and Zach Snyder's remake of "Dawn of the Dead".

The premise is f***ed up enough --- imagine being trapped in a small town in northernmost Alaska where it is going to be dark for 30 days in a row. Then add a band of ruthless vampires. Mix well. Carnage and mayhem ensue. (via deepdiscount.com)
